Waterfront

An Unbelievable Annapolis Engagement Session

Christa & Grant

There's something special about sunrise engagement sessions! I don't know if it's the way the world looks or what, but sunrise may be my new favorite photo time. Everything seems so soft and airy. Pair that with the Annapolis waterfront and - my goodness - it's Heaven! I think it's safe to say that Christa and Grant are phenomenal. Not only did they drive an hour for their session, but they were so full of energy for their engagement. They had no problems walking around Downtown Annapolis just exploring. The best part is that they were just as amped over cute doors as I am, haha! The true test of a BCP couple is being excited over interesting buildings and cobblestone ‚̧ԳŹ. Every second of the morning spent with Christa and Grant was fun. Interestingly, they had never been to Annapolis before, so Shawn and I also got to be mini tour guides. We took them around Ego Alley, Main Street, the State House. We even saw Larry Hogan out in his yard walking - our very own Maryland celebrity sighting ūüėõ. I'm so glad that Christa and Grant were staying in Annapolis for a little bit after the session, because it's so full of amazing things to see. One thing that is easy to say about these two is how they have such a wonderful spirit. About a week before the session, Christa emailed me saying how it might rain, but that they didn't want to reschedule, and were...

Jessica & Adam

A Breathtaking Waterfront Wedding

"I knew she was the one the first time I heard her say 'I love you'.  Hearing those words come from her in a way I had never heard them said before struck me in such a profound way.  I had never heard such genuine love spoken before Jessica nor had I seen it.  The way she looked at me I knew right away I had finally found the love of my life." I'm a total crier when it comes to weddings, and during every part of Jessica and Adam's day I found myself tearing up. It didn't matter if it was the bridesmaids watching Jessica get final touches on her makeup or the last dance where Adam and Jessica were enveloped in each other's arms, it all created such a beautiful feeling. My favorite part of the day was getting to watch Adam's face light up as he saw Jessica come through the doors and down the aisle. His nerves had been on overdrive the whole day. I seriously thought for a second that he may pass out in anticipation for the ceremony to begin. It wasn't until Adam saw Jessica come around the corner that relief washed over him and a smile spread across his face. As Jessica walked toward Adam she paused halfway down the aisle so that Adam could meet her and they could take the final steps to the arbor together. Honestly, at that point in the ceremony (which...

Jessica & Frank

A Gorgeous Waterfront Wedding at The Anchor Inn

I am just in love with Jess and Frank's wedding day at The Anchor Inn in Pasadena, Maryland on Saturday. This adorable couple had a sweet and emotional ceremony where their pup, Mufasa, acted as ring bearer. I don't know about anyone else, but it makes me immediately giddy when I see a tie on a dog. Jess and Frank went the bold and vibrant route when choosing their wedding decor with colors like pink, yellow and orange. It completely fit the bright and airy reception space in an amazing way. The mason jar centerpieces (which I'm not sure if they were DIY) were so cool looking, and really made each table feel warm and inviting. Throughout the evening, Shawn and I must have told each other how fantastic Jess and Frank's wedding colors were about 10 times. When it came time for the reception, Shawn and I were assured by Frank's mom that the dance floor would be full and wild. She was not exaggerating. The floor felt packed the entire evening, and it seemed like all of their guests put in 100% dancing effort for every song. During the evening, we pulled Frank and Jess outside for some night portraits. When the Cha-Cha slide came on, the entire venue was shaking because of everyone stomping. We seriously thought the floor might crack in half in the most awesome way, haha! Congrats to Jess and Frank, and thank you both for the beautiful and incredibly fun wedding!  ...

4 Ways We Prepare for Engagement Sessions

Tips & Tricks

The more days with perfect weather we have, the more and more I'm itching to get outside for some of this years engagement sessions. I am so excited for all of the couples that Shawn and I get to photograph, and all this sunshine is making it hard to wait for next month when everything fully kicks into gear. I wanted to do tonight's blog on how Shawn and I prepare for engagement sessions after a few months of not being behind the camera regularly. For future brides and grooms who are reading this: you are not the only ones who get nervous before photos. I'm not going to lie, it can be difficult getting back into the groove, and when I feel an ounce of jitters I become a tongue tied mess, haha. However, after doing this for awhile, I've been able to come up with a process that has knocked out a lot of pre-session butterflies. My steps help me, and whether you are a couple preparing for your own engagement photos or a photographer gearing up for a crazy awesome season, I hope these will be useful! My first step toward calming nerves is always getting to know the clients. Shawn and I meet with our couples, we send them welcome gifts, and I try to be in almost constant communication leading up to the session. The main motivation behind doing all of that is for everyone to feel very comfortable with each other...

Kati & Chris

A Stunning Engagement in Annapolis, Maryland

We met up with Kati and Chris on a cool November morning at St. John's College in Annapolis. Though it was a sunrise session, these two showed up with bright smiles and a wonderful positive glow around them. They also brought along their sweet goldendoodle, Dempsey, who is so goofy and charming that you cannot help but laugh when you see him. We were just into the first few minutes of the session when the cops came and hauled us off to campus jail... Just kidding! Although we did have to take Dempsey off campus grounds, the security guard was totally nice about it and even hung around for a little to talk to us about how adorable dogs are. (Shout out to that awesome guy!) Once we stepped off campus, Dempsey he made his triumphantly adorable return for the rest of the session :). Shawn and I loved wandering around downtown with these three, chatting about how nice of a day it was and about their proposal. Kati and Chris showed us just how crazy their height difference with a reenactment of Chris on one knee (so funny!). We made stops at the State House, Ego Alley, and then the William Paca House and Gardens. There was some construction  going on out front of the house, which meant that the workers on this fall day got a nice little glimpse of romance, haha. Kati and Chris are so cute and fit together so well that they look...

Jaclyn & Josh

A Nautical Wedding at Celebrations at the Bay

If rain on the wedding day is lucky, than a hurricane on your wedding day must give you luck for this lifetime and the next! Rain and wind aside, this beautiful fall wedding took place at Celebrations at the Bay in Pasadena, Maryland. The decor of the wedding was -- fittingly -- nautical with the main color being navy blue and pops of orange showing up in the flowers, centerpieces, and Josh's ring. The storm brewing outside, in a weird way, added an extra layer of excitement to this bayside wedding. Shawn and I had the best time watching everything come together perfectly for these two. They were surrounded by so many great people, and their bridal party was incredibly fun and kept the couples' minds off the weather. The affectionate term for the day became #StillJoaquinDownTheAisle, haha! I loved capturing their day and I'm still blown away by how gorgeous Jaclyn's dress looked, how touching her dance with her dad was, and how much fun Josh had learning the Whip and Nae Nae.   ______________________________________________________________________________ All of the amazing vendors that made this day¬†the best day ever! Sarah & Kevin

Sunrise Engagement Session in Baltimore

Early morning Baltimore sunrise sessions are some of my absolute favorite! It's so calm and peaceful that you almost forget you are in the middle of the city. Seeing the sun poke through the construction off in the distance gave the city a nice industrial golden look that was the perfect start to a wonderful session. Sarah and Kevin chose Federal Hill Park and the Inner Harbor as the backdrops for¬†their sweet engagement photos. It was such a fun day with these two; even some of the ducks crowding the harbor wanted to get into a few shots :P. Seeing how much love Sarah and Kevin¬†have in their eyes for one another made me that much more excited for their April wedding at the La Fontaine Bleue in Glen Burnie! Ahh - I can't wait!   ______________________________________________________________________________ ...

Kristy & Jonathan

An Awesome Wedding at Quiet Waters Park

At the beginning of September, Shawn and I shot Kristy and Jonathan's self described "backyard BBQ meets contemporary" wedding and family hangout. Their ceremony took place at the Severna Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church, with their reception happening at the Sassafras Pavilion in Quiet Waters Park. Since their engagement session had taken place in August, I didn't have to wait too long to be in the incredible presence of these two again. Kristy and Jonathan's entire day was accented with the greatest details from some of their favorite things (I love that they ship Luigi and Peach), but bigger than the details: their day was filled with a massive amount of love from their family and friends. I teared up more than a few times at the amount of support and happiness that these two have surrounding them. From Kristy, to other couples preparing to marry their best friend: "Pray more than you worry. Also, plan for the marriage more than you plan for the wedding day. It doesn't matter what the centerpieces look like or how many people didn't RSVP but still showed up.... you're still just as married as anyone else is once you say 'I do!'" I could - and probably will - carry that quote with me for all time :). Congratulations, Kristy and Jonathan! May your life be as wonderful and strong as the love that you have for one another. It was truly a pleasure being a part of your day...

Marielle & Don, Quiet Waters

A Beautiful Waterfront Wedding

A few weeks ago Shawn and I went down to our hometown of Pasadena, Maryland for Marielle and Don's wedding. Admittedly we only live 30 minutes away from the 'Dena - but hey - it's still fun to see all the familiar sites, haha! Marielle and Don were married at the beautiful Our Lady of the Chesapeake. Their fantastic reception took place at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. I always enjoy being able to do sessions here, because it has a little bit of everything for portraits. The Blue Heron Center was the perfect spot for this classic wedding, and it was filled with lovely details. The guests had an amazing time celebrating these two newlyweds, and the party seemed to be going constantly. At the end of the night, Marielle and Don's guests all formed a huge circle around these two and sent them off with great cheers and applause! :D Congratulations, Marielle and Don!   ______________________________________________________________________________ The getting ready was much less stressful for the guys :P ¬† The fantastic vendors that made this day absolutely amazing! Kristy & Jonathan

An Annapolis Waterfront Engagement

I had been looking forward to Kristy and Jonathan's engagement session since we first started planning it in June. We had some trouble finding a date that worked for everyone, but when we finally were able to meet, it ended up being one of the most beautiful days of the summer. Their session kicked off at St. John's College, which was an amazing location with tons of intimate and romantic spots. From there, we wandered around the streets of Annapolis taking advantage of the gardens and all the cute side streets. Kristy and Jonathan are a really amazing couple. They are so laid back and - as everyone will see - adorable together! They have such fun personalities, which became really apparent when Jonathan changed into a button-up taco shirt. How fantastic is that? Their engagement session got Shawn and I even more pumped for their September wedding. They were discussing some of the details with us during our downtown stroll and I just know it's going to be a wonderful day!   ...

Meghan & Morgan, Mayo Beach Park

A Superhero Wedding

Meghan and Morgan's wedding was such a fun event! Just like their engagement session, Meghan and Morgan had a lot of fun superhero references that made an appearance throughout the day. They described their wedding style as a "fun, casual, superhero wedding" and they were not kidding! There was an awesome photobooth type station that had a wide array of superhero masks and props, and their guests would put on any props they wanted and then take a quick snap with the provided Polaroid camera. It was such a great idea! I would totally recommend this to anyone who doesn't want a tradition photobooth and instead just wants a quick snap of friends. Eventually the masks made their way to the dance floor where the groom - I mean Captain America - and Iron Man showed off their dance moves :P. This pair is definitely amazing and I cannot wait to see where life and their love takes them! Meghan and Morgan, thank you so much for allowing Shawn and me to capture your day! Heather & Tommy

A Fantastic Wedding at the Anchor Inn

Heather and Tommy's wedding day was absolutely perfect! I had been anticipating their wedding ever since their engagement session last Fall. These two are so sweet together, and when they are wrapped in each other's arms it's as if the rest of the world just fades away. During their ceremony there was a moment when Heather started to tear up and Tommy ever so gently reached over to her and just grabbed her hand. It's in those small actions that you see real genuine love and caring. It was really a beautiful and special moment. I am ecstatic to share Heather and Tommy's photos. Everything was just so wonderfully placed and the reception venue: wow! The Anchor Inn in Pasadena was completely breathtaking; the inside was so light and airy¬†and¬†Heather and Tommy's beach inspired decorations fit amazingly with the space! The decor was also fitting considering Tommy proposed to Heather in Ocean City while walking down the beach (AH! So adorable!). I'm so happy that I was able to be apart of this gorgeous day and I'm really looking forward to showing these two all of their beautiful images! :D Heather and Tommy, thank you so much allowing Shawn and me to capture this very special day! We¬†know your life together will be just as amazing! :)   ______________________________________________________________________________ Even though everyone knows already, thank you Shawn for being my photo sidekick (even though you're THE superhero in my eyes) All of the awesome vendors...

Lisa & Michael

A Breathtaking Wedding at London Town & Gardens

I cannot say enough amazing things about Lisa and Michael. When I met with them last year, I could immediately tell they were something special; when I shot their engagement session this past January, I just knew they were the perfect pair. I had been counting down the days until their wedding. When it arrived, I had so much energy and excitement, I had to dance in the car before getting to them (otherwise I probably would have seemed super strange)! The weather on their day started off a little cloudy and a touch rainy, but by the time the ceremony rolled around, the clouds in the sky were highlighted by the sun behind them and gave the perfect backdrop for their vows. Of course, with their wedding at London Town, it was pretty much guaranteed that the ceremony would be breathtaking, but the added bit of sky just made it that much better. Lisa and Michael have a love like no other. During their bride and groom portrait session Michael was constantly keeping Lisa laughing and Lisa was constantly giving Michael sweet little kisses. They are filled with so much love for one another, watching them together and seeing how they look at each other makes my heart incredibly happy. I loved hearing how they both knew the other was the one, and Michael's take on it really drove home how great they are together: "I believe it takes a tremendous number of moments to add up...

Lili and Alexis

A Fun Waterfront Couples' Session

In April, my friend Alexis (who some may remember) asked me about photographing her and her girlfriend, Lili. Unfortunately, we were all extra busy in April and May, but luckily in June we all were able to get together at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. Quiet Waters has to be one of my favorite spots, since it's so pretty and there are ALWAYS lots of places to shoot at; it seems like new places pop up each time :P. No matter how many times I photograph there, the people I am with always give the area a different kind of energy, which is my favorite part of the photo-taking. Lili and Alexis are so goofy, and filled with so much happiness and love. Even though this was just the second time I was meeting Lili (the first being at Leah and Glenn's wedding), I felt like we had been friends for such a long time - it was a wonderful time and I'm looking forward to sharing their images! :D   So perfect, right? Oh my goodness! :D ...

Lindsay and Stephanie

A Beautiful Summer Massachusetts Engagement

On June 1st, I had the pleasure of traveling up to Massachusetts to meet Lindsay and Stephanie and shoot their engagement photos. I had been in contact with them for a few months, but we had never gotten a chance to meet because of the distance in our home states. When my assistant (my fiance :P) and I arrived at their house (that they so graciously opened to us) I felt like I had known these two for years. They are absolutely wonderful and two of the nicest people I think I could ever have the chance to meet. For their engagement session, they had two locations planned out, the first was very close to their wedding venue in Bradley Palmer State Park. The park was gorgeous, vibrant, and the sun coming through the trees just made everything so warm and comforting. After about an hour at the park we ventured to our second location, which was Crane Beach on Crane Estates.¬†The beach was absolutely fantastic! The weather was clear and perfect, the crowds were not overbearing and there was this great mansion on a beautiful green hill in the background. I cannot thank Lindsay and Stephanie enough for allowing me to shoot their engagement photos. If this was any indication of how their wedding is going to go, well, I am ecstatic and looking forward to their wedding more than anything else!   ¬† ...
