We are no longer booking weddings or portrait sessions at this time, thank you for your understanding.

Welcoming Pony Express!

Introductions

This blog has been such a long time coming. I have been wanting to formally introduce our dog, Pony, for a while now. I'm kind of glad I waited, though, because over the past 7 months we have gotten to know all of his goofy quirks and build up a semi-obsessive photo collection of him.  We adopted Pony (formally known as Indie) from a wonderful organization called PapAdopters. Our journey to puppy-hood was not easy, because we fell in love with a dog on the opposite side of the country. Shawn and I had always said "we'll get a dog when we have a house", but that never stopped us from Internet window shopping different local rescue sites, or making lists of what the perfect dog would be. While Internet looking, I came across Indie's photo. Something inside me just knew, and as soon as I showed Shawn, he knew as well: this was our dog. Reading what he had been through was heart-breaking. Indie was a 2 year old Papillon mix from California. The organizers at PapAdopters told us that they believe he was in a hoarding situation with almost 200 other dogs. He was malnourished, dirty, and his tail was stained yellow from having to sit in his own mess. Our hearts broke for him and I cried after hearing all that had happened to him since no animal should suffer through that. We carefully filled out the application, and heard back the next day...

Happy New Year!

Reflection and Moving Forward

With the switching over of years comes making new optimistic promises, because a new number means a new start. I'm usually in that group of people, creating more things to do and vows to keep. Except for this year; this year, I am not making any new starts. My main focus is going to be expansion on what Shawn and I are already doing. I fell in love with all that 2015 has brought us and I don't want that to "end." Sure, we didn't buy a house, or check off a million things on our list of "things to do as an adult," but we were together. We got to fully start on this journey of being business partners and accomplishing so many great things. For Shawn, he got to have a few of his papers for his Ph.D. accepted into some huge conference. We also adopted our first dog together named Pony. He has brought nothing but joy and millions of laughs to our lives. I got to slow down a little bit and enjoy more time with my mom, drinking tootsie roll hot cocoa and crying over Hallmark movies. Together with Shawn's family we have set up family game nights that I really love, because I love getting to bond with my new family. Those family nights are very, very special to me. I also got to attend my first conference this year, which lit a crazy fire under me to...

My Favorite Wedding Photos of 2015

Year in Review

Every photo of Shawn and I is important, but the photos that we cherish and love the most are our wedding photos. We look back on our day and see the family that was present along with the memories that were created. Our love for each other and for the day itself shines in every single image. They are a wonderful representation of who we are and why our marriage is special. Those feelings we have for our photos are what motivates us to be our best possible selves for all of our couples. This past year we were able to photograph 17 amazing couples coming together in marriage. Each wedding was unique to the style of the couple, and every single marriage announcement, I teared up. Shawn and I got to do our first out-of-state wedding in Massachusetts, and because that was such a fabulous experience, we now hope to get more out-of-state nuptials! The best part about this year is that from these weddings, we came out with new friends that we are so excited for and are cheering for every single day. Gathering the images for this post was something that I wish I could do all of the time. Seeing these days unfold again was beautiful. Shawn and I are incredibly grateful for every opportunity that we have been given. We have really grown as partners and photographers so much over 2015. It was no surprise to me that I started tearing up at...

My Favorite Engagement Photos of 2015

Year in Review

I am so shocked that the end of the year is already here! Today's blog has been an absolute breeze to write and a dream to pick images for. I've had in mind some of the images that I would use for today's post for quite awhile, but actually going through them brought back so many happy memories of the great people Shawn and I have gotten to meet. Over the past year, I have felt so much growth in engagements sessions; from getting couples to feel comfortable, to putting on the final edits. It's truly been a wonderful year. We have had our share of challenges, but, through facing them head-on, we have been able to completely obliterate any problems (hulk style :P). 2015 was also Shawn's first full year of shooting along side me. I can't speak for him, but I can say it has been the most amazing thing. I love working with my husband, we can pretty much read each other's minds and he helps me calm down in times of high stress. He is my rock and I cannot thank him enough for all the hard-work and dedication he has shown to Britney Clause Photography. There are not enough jellybeans in the world for me to pay him back with <3. Going forward into 2016, I hope to take my engagement sessions to the next level. Shawn and I are constantly learning in order to give every couple we have the best possible...

Our Sunny and Tropical Honeymoon

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

The weather here in Maryland has been completely dreary this week. We've been greeted with grey skies and rain almost this entire week and I'm pretty sick of it. That means today I am taking everyone on a photographic journey to Turks and Caicos to relive the most beautiful honeymoon that has ever honeymoon'd :P. I remember when Shawn and I were planning for our honeymoon and thinking of what we were interested in and what we wanted to avoid. The biggest thing we didn't want: a tropical place. Hahah, well, obviously that didn't stick because as soon as we read a Yahoo article about Provo Island (along with seeing the photos) we were hooked. Turks and Caicos is amazing. It's a perfect temperature all year round, the crime is almost zero, and the water is the bluest I've seen (I swear I wasn't paid to advertise the island, it just happens naturally). The main thing we wanted was a place that has a sense of relaxation and uniqueness. We found these things on the island and in the places we stayed. We were able to rent a cottage for the first half of our trip called The Ballyhoo Cottage, which was completely breathtaking with a private pool and the ocean in our backyard - perfection! The last four days of our stay were spent at the Villa Del Mar, an amazing hotel resort with the beach right across the street. Now, I have to say, Shawn and I...

Marlayna's Charleston Portraits

Fun in a City Rich with History

Taking it back to Charleston! Last month I posted about my adventures in South Carolina for the Creative at Heart Conference. It was an amazing time learning more about running my business and how to appeal to new friends (and spoil the friends I already have ;P). What wasn't seen in that blog, though, was that fellow photo-friend, Marlayna (www.marlaynaphotography.com), and I had a little portrait session around this AH-mazing city! Charleston has so much to offer in terms of backdrops and perfect lighting. We spent about 30 minutes getting knocked around by the wind just so we could photograph the sun peeking through the trees. A truer #photographerproblems has never been spoken until just now, haha. The level of fun that we had while practicing our "posing" was hysterical. We both have plenty of goofball photos of each other to last a lifetime. I'm so happy to have spent a great day in a beautiful city that offered so much to us as photographers. It was even better that I got to spend it with a wonderful friend who is just as obsessed with buildings, trees, and sunlight as I am, haha! :D   ______________________________________________________________________________ Lols SUNNY TREE! ...

Our Relaxing Trip to Salem, Massachusetts

After Shawn and I finished photographing Lindsay and Stephanie's wedding, we went to a place that I have an odd obsession with: Salem. Everything from the rich history to the bright yellow leaves on the trees I was in love with. We took a tour through the Witch Museum, which was like living in my 10th grade English books. Seeing everything that I had learned about through the years was incredibly fascinating. Not to mention that the shops in Salem are absolutely adorable! They have a Harry Potter wand store, which looks like it was straight out of the movie. I wanted to buy a wand so badly, but thankfully Shawn was there to talk me off the edge (and tell me to wait until we visit HP World in Disney :P). We fully intend on going back in order to see the house from Hocus Pocus, haha! We only got spend a little of our afternoon in the small city before we started the 8 hour drive home, but we ate lunch at Scratch Kitchen. Best. Grilled Cheese. Ever. I think I can safely speak for Shawn when I say we could have lived within this restaurant. It was such a unique spot with all of the ingredients being local and fresh. Though we loved visiting, I didn't end up taking many photos at all. Shawn and I really just enjoyed being with each other on a great fall afternoon :). This was an absolutely perfect way to...

Kati & Chris

A Stunning Engagement in Annapolis, Maryland

We met up with Kati and Chris on a cool November morning at St. John's College in Annapolis. Though it was a sunrise session, these two showed up with bright smiles and a wonderful positive glow around them. They also brought along their sweet goldendoodle, Dempsey, who is so goofy and charming that you cannot help but laugh when you see him. We were just into the first few minutes of the session when the cops came and hauled us off to campus jail... Just kidding! Although we did have to take Dempsey off campus grounds, the security guard was totally nice about it and even hung around for a little to talk to us about how adorable dogs are. (Shout out to that awesome guy!) Once we stepped off campus, Dempsey he made his triumphantly adorable return for the rest of the session :). Shawn and I loved wandering around downtown with these three, chatting about how nice of a day it was and about their proposal. Kati and Chris showed us just how crazy their height difference with a reenactment of Chris on one knee (so funny!). We made stops at the State House, Ego Alley, and then the William Paca House and Gardens. There was some construction  going on out front of the house, which meant that the workers on this fall day got a nice little glimpse of romance, haha. Kati and Chris are so cute and fit together so well that they look...

Lindsay & Stephanie

A Romantic Willowdale Estate Wedding

Hold on to your seats people, this post is going to be a long one. Lindsay and Stephanie were married on a gorgeous November day in Topsfield, Massachusetts at the breathtaking Willowdale Estate. Fall was still in effect in the Northeast with colorful leaves still filling the trees. The pops of royal blue and granny smith apple green showed up in their gorgeous flowers and fun Converse Chuck Taylor's. I could talk all day about the wonderful moments the wedding day contained, but the most impactful was when the officiant, Priscilla Gearney, pronounced Lindsay and Stephanie as wife and wife. The room exploded with cheers and applause - it was spectacular. I know I had a difficult time working through the happy tears that were clouding my vision, haha! "My fiancee & I are looking for a photographer to do our engagement photos as well as our wedding photos. Too bad we live in Massachusetts :(. Thank you again for your beautiful captured moments in time <3" This was from Lindsay in 2011, which was a year when this Britney Clause Photography thing was just a pipe dream. I had no style, no direction, my watermark was a layered paint brush in Photoshop. It wasn't pretty and if you go time warp in the blog there may be some of that left over. Yikes! However, through all of that "figuring stuff out" phase, these two women believed in me when I didn't even believe...
