We are no longer booking weddings or portrait sessions at this time, thank you for your understanding.

Wedding

Katie & Adam Antrim 1844

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

Antrim 1844 in the summer is absolutely stunning. Antrim 1844 in the winter...also absolutely stunning. This venue is jaw-dropping gorgeous year-round and I am obsessed with it! For Katie and Adam's beautiful January wedding, they combined winter colors with spring florals, which just made the winter garden greatness of Antrim pop! One of my favorite details of the day was George, Katie's stuffed monkey from when she was a baby. He was such a special part of Katie's life, so it only made sense that he was dressed to the nines for Katie and Adam's day! Katie & Adam - we are so grateful to have met you and your families and spent your day with you! It was truly such a lovely experience and we are so excited to see where life takes the two of you. We know you're going to have such a wonderful life adventure complete with lots of laughs, jokes, and sweet kisses! Notable things from the day! During the first dance, their guests joined in by singing along with the song as Katie and Adam danced ❤️. Katie's shoes are the same ones she wore to prom. Katie had a special guest in attendance - her stuffed monkey, George, whom she got when she was 1! Katie's cousin sewed a suit for George the monkey which was the perfect fit! The stationery that Adam used for his vows was incredibly special and it was by chance that Adam had any leftover in...

Carolyn & John Kylan Barn

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

Carolyn and John are married! Their elegant winter wonderland theme fits so perfectly within the confines of the always gorgeous Kylan Barn. There were so many string lights and evergreen everything! It made me even more excited for Christmas, and I'm already pretty stoked about it, haha! Even with the rain coming down, it couldn't put a damper on the joyous energy of the day. I find something really special about rain on a wedding day. A lot of people panic, but for someone who had a rainy wedding day, I know how the sudden change of plans can feel oddly exciting and freeing. Think about it: a couple plans everything down to the minute for their wedding, but rain is not often in that plan. So if rain happens, it means change has to happen, and change brings a certain amount of exhilaration that comes from the unknown. It's in the unknown that a couple realizes that no matter what changes about the day - the fact that they are marrying each other is the constant.  Carolyn & John, thank you both so much for being such incredible people! Your day was filled with so much happiness, and we are so glad we got to capture it! If your dance floor is any indication of what your lives together will be like it is going to be full of laughs, love, and great music :P. Cool stuff from the day! Carolyn's dad built the ceremony arch! Santa...

Julie & Mario Mt. Washington Mill Dye House

Wedding Photographers in Baltimore

Mario and Julie had THE most perfect wedding day! From the weather, which was a cool 74 degrees, to their venues, everything was absolutely gorgeous! Their wedding day kicked off at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Baltimore where they had a beautiful church ceremony. Then we all moved to the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House where their green, gold, and ivory details sparkled under the glow of one hundred string lights. Julie and Mario couldn't have asked for a more love-filled day, and we are so happy that we got to celebrate them! Julie and Mario, thank you both so much for allowing us to take part in your spectacular day! You two are so fantastic in every way, and we couldn't be more excited for you two! Cheers to the future! Fun stuff from the day! Julie's pearl necklace came from her grandmother, who got it from Julie's grandfather on their first anniversary! Julie had a small heart made out of pearls from her mom's garter sewn into her dress. We incorporated Julie's baby shoes into her wedding details! That was definitely a first for us :D. Their hashtag for the evening was #RomeoandJulieT. How cute is that?! Julie's bouquet featured two charms of her grandparents. Mario and Julie had an almost cake smash after their cake cutting. Mario got a little bit of cake on Julie and Julie tried, but was unsuccessful in getting him back, haha! Julie had ordered her shoes way back in July...

Justine & Jared Main Street Ballroom

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

I think Main Street Ballroom is solidly on our list of favorite venues. Whenever we get to photograph a wedding at MSB it is always spectacular, and our couples always make the venue more unique than it already is. We also are just huge fans of Ellicott City in general. The sense of community that this area boasts and the friendliness of its members make anyone visiting feel at home. Jared and Justine, I would say, had the perfect Fall day for their wedding in Ellicott City. It was sunny, not too hot or cold, and there was a puppy costume parade happening right down the street. To put it another way, the second we saw a Dachshund in a witch outfit - I knew the day was won. It felt so fitting that Jared and Justine's day would encompass so much charm. Not just within the confines of their venue, but also surrounding them in the city. The entire day was a celebration for all of those in the area, and while the people weren't all celebrating the bride and groom, the energy was 100% funneling into Main Street Ballroom that night. Justine and Jared - thank you both so much. We loved getting to meet you and being a part of your day. Above all else, you two are a dream to be around and we are so happy that we got to witness your absolutely stunning wedding! Amazing things from the day! There was a puppy parade...

Peter & Sydney Celebrations at the Bay

Wedding Photographers in Pasadena

Not only did Peter and Sydney have the most gorgeous weather for their wedding, they also had the most stunning venue: Celebrations at the Bay! We love Celebrations, not because it's on the water and has fabulous views, but because they really take care of the couple on their wedding day. I mean, don't get me wrong, the views also make it an easy favorite, but the staff is just incredible! The Celebrations crew weren't the only people that made the day fantastic. Peter and Sydney's family and friends made sure that the bride and groom had everything they needed for the big day. There were so many laughs, hugs, and even some tears (happy ones of course). It is always so much fun to see the dynamics of a family on a wedding day, and Peter and Sydney definitely have some great family dynamics!  Peter & Sydney - Oh my goodness, you two! You both are so wonderful and made Shawn and I feel like family on the big day! It took all of our strength not to put our cameras down and jump on the dance floor with you both, haha! We have loved getting to know you over the last few months, it's been an absolute joy and we cannot wait to see where life takes you two! Congratulations! Fun things from the day! Syndey's mom put together all of the bouquets. Everyone thought the silk flowers were real! So good! Peter & Sydney...

Amanda & Matt Castle Farm

Wedding Photographer in Maryland

There are so many gorgeous venues in Maryland, and we've been so fortunate to photograph at so many over the last 11 years. The beauty about there being so many is that there's always more to fall in love with. Our most recent love interest is Castle Farm in Snow Hill, Maryland. This gorgeous equestrian estate has been hosting weddings for 12 years, and has been owned by the same family for over five generations! Getting to experience this stunning farm in person was amazing, and getting to experience it with Amanda and Matt was even more spectacular! These two have been together since high school, and have been dreaming of their wedding day for so long! The magic of their day was in full effect with a stunning ceremony, and even better dance floor to fully celebrate the night! Amanda & Matt, thank you both so much for allowing us to capture your day! The specialness of the day was not lost on us, and we are just so thankful we've gotten to know you two! You have the most awesome support system surrounding you with some of the best singing voices and dance move around :P! Congratulations! Cool things from the day! We got to see a couple past BCP couples, which always makes a day that much more fun! The couple who won the anniversary dance has been married for 52 years! Amanda's dad had a q-tip at the ready for Amanda after their first look...

Kylie & Nicki Rose Hill Manor

Wedding Photographers in Leesburg

We are kicking off September with Kylie and Nicki's gorgeous wedding at Rose Hill Manor in Leesburg, Virginia! Even with the weather being a bit warm, their day was total perfection from the start. So often during planning, a couple can forget to incorporate their personalities into the details of the day. However, for Kylie and Nicki that was not the case! They had their sophisticated color palette and gorgeous florals, but then they also had nods to their two cats popping up throughout the day. These two had the perfect balance to their day that truly encompassed them as individuals and as a couple.  Kylie & Nicki, thank you both so much for allowing us to capture your gorgeous day. You two are such a fun loving and remarkable pair, and that is only strengthened by your fabulous family and friends! We felt like we had known you two for ages by the end of the night, and we are so excited for this next chapter in your relationship! Cool things from the day! Nicki wore his Naval Academy ring for the ceremony and then his grandfather's ring during the reception. Kylie's maid of honor's speech included various numbers throughout it, and she even got lottery tickets for Kylie & Nicki using those numbers! Spread throughout the reception space were photos of their family and friends on their wedding days. Their favors for their guests were tiny cat figurines! So flippin' cute! Kylie and Nicki perfectly...

Jenna & Adam Chesapeake Bay Foundation

Wedding Photographers in Annapolis

We love getting to photograph at new venues and for Jenna and Adam's day we got to do just that! This was our first time at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and even though it was a little hot, Jenna and Adam created such an amazing atmosphere for all of their friends and family to celebrate them! With the bay as their backdrop, their blue and ivory details set the stage for a truly stunning summer wedding day. Plus, once all of the formal goodness was out of the way, their reception lit up the evening. Jenna & Adam, it was so amazing getting to spend the day with you! You both are so fantastic and so much fun! We were absolutely thrilled getting a small look into how loved you two are through all of your family and friends celebrating your love! Thank you so much, and cheers to years of happiness! Fun stuff from the day! Their cake had a puppy hidden on the side that looked like it had taken a bite out of the cake 🤗 A friend loaned Adam his cufflinks. His own something borrowed. Adam's parents won the anniversary dance with 48 years of marriage! To keep from crying, Jenna's maid of honor had to keep looking at other guests while making her speech. It was so funny and her method worked since she didn't cry! A little bit before the ceremony, a random couple came up to the ceremony space and tried to...

Lilli & Miles Dulany's Overlook

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

What is there to say about Lilli and Miles' wedding day except for WOW! From start to finish there was no shortage of love surrounding this incredible couple plus absolutely gorgeous scenery. Seriously, I always forget how stunning Dulany's Overlook is until we are pulling up. It's unquestionably one of our favorite wedding venues in Maryland! I don't think Lilli and Miles could have asked for a more perfect day to get married. The clouds were rolling in, the florals were bright, and their guests were next level. Following their first kiss under the chuppah, all of their guests rushed forward to parade these two through their recessional. There was jumping, singing, and tons of cheering for Lilli and Miles, and if I didn't have a job to do I would have soaked up all of that happiness. Their friends and family kickstarted Lilli and Miles' wedding day in the best possible way: showing and demonstrating their unwavering support. Lilli and Miles, thank you so incredibly much for allowing us to take part and witness your gorgeous day. Your wedding is one that we will never forget. Your energy and love were all on such magnificent display, and we couldn't be happier for you two. It goes without saying that your family and friends are also just as spectacular as you two are and they are lucky to have you in their lives. We are honored to have played such a small role in your monumental wedding day!  Neat...

Megan & Ricky Main Street Ballroom

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

I don't think the novelty of Main Street Ballroom will ever wear off for me. I mean, it just doesn't get better than this gorgeous industrial venue in the middle of quaint Ellicott City. Every single wedding we've had at this location has always taken my breath away, and Megan and Ricky's wedding is no exception!  Even though the majority of the day was rainy, that didn't put any sort of damper on the mood of the day. The second Megan and Ricky were finally together at the end of the aisle of St. Augustine Church, there was a calmness that washed over the day. These two balance each other so well, and even in moments of silence, you can feel the love that they have for each other. Their entire day was absolutely amazing, my only wish is that we could have stayed on the dance floor with them and partied the night away!  Megan and Ricky, thank you both so much for allowing us to experience your beautiful wedding day! We are so excited for you two and all that is to come in your future! We hope that you enjoy your time in Mexico relaxing now that wedding planning is all finished!! :D Cool stuff from the day! It rained for most of the day EXCEPT for when it was time for us to wander around Ellicott City! Perfect timing! This was our second time exploring Main Street with Megan and Ricky. We also photographed...

Haley & Joe Liriodendron Mansion

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring - no matter the season the Liriodendron Mansion is FLAWLESS! It is easily one of our favorite venues in Maryland mainly because the sunsets are ridiculously beautiful! The way the sunlight flows through the trees and creates this ethereal glow to the world is magical. Haley and Joe not only chose the Liriodendron Mansion for their wedding, but also for their engagement photos. Getting to wander the grounds with them at two different times was incredibly special. Once with anticipation, and once with so much "WE DID IT!" excitement. At different moments during the wedding, you could see that excitement bubble to the surface with both of them holding hands and jumping enthusiastically. Watching Haley and Joe in those moments of excitement overload is extra confirmation that true love is real. Haley and Joe, you two are absolutely fabulous, and Shawn and I are so thankful that we got to spend your wedding day with you two! The love that you have for each other is so beautiful, and we cannot wait to see how your love grows and deepens in the future! Fun stuff from the day! Haley's garter is a family heirloom, her grandmother, her mother, all of her aunts, and cousins ♥️♥️ Haley and her Cousin, Lauren (also the MOH) wore matching bracelets! Haley incorporated a lot of family jewelry into her bridal look including her grandmother's necklace and bracelet. Such a great way to have those family members...

Liz & Jesse Annapolis Waterfront Hotel

Wedding Photographers in Annapolis

Liz and Jesse's wedding day at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel was absolutely stunning! The weather was perfect, the decor - stunning, and the way these two look at each other? I mean come on, it's the sweetest thing ever! We knew Liz and Jesse were going to plan an amazing wedding day from our very first chat with them, but it was even more magical than we even thought!  My favorite moment from the day has to be their first dance. They started things off with a quick spin and then snuggled close to each other. They swayed back and forth, both with tears in their eyes singing along to their song: "Dig" by Incubus. Then they invited their parents to the floor, then their wedding party and spouses, and finally all of their guests surrounded them. It was a lovely progression of bringing everyone in their life close to them during their very special dance.  Thank you so much, Liz and Jesse, for trusting us to capture your beautiful wedding day. From start to finish, you both poured so much of yourselves into the day, making it an extraordinary display of love and respect for each other. I don't think you could have asked for a better way to kick off your forever together! Much love to you both!  Cool things from the day! Jesse wore his dad's wedding band. Most if their vendors are grad of Chesapeake High School - including myself! Liz and...

Sam & Bart Paca House & Harbor Queen

Wedding Photographers in Annapolis

I am giddy with excitement to share Sam and Bart's Annapolis wedding day today! Not only did they have a gorgeous ceremony and dinner at the William Paca House & Gardens, but they also had a brass band march them and all of their guests to the Harbor Queen boat for dancing! I don't think it gets much cooler than a giant dance party on a boat, and I think Sam, Bart, and every single one of their guests would agree! These two not only wanted to celebrate their nuptials with each other, but they really wanted to put an emphasis on the family and friends that attended. Their guests were so incredibly lovely, and while it's common to see happiness during a wedding, you could also feel it for Sam and Bart. There was an overwhelming warmth that every guest brought out for these two and it was truly such an honor to witness. Especially when we hit the Harbor Queen and everyone busted out their dance moves. When I say that the dance floor was wild - I 1000% mean it. The whole day was a blast, but getting to experience the energy on that dance floor and boat was, oh my gosh, something I will remember and try to channel for a very long time. Sam and Bart - Thank you both so much. Your day was filled with so much brilliance that I know wouldn't have been possible if you two weren't such magical and...

Kim & Ross Mt. Washington Mill Dye House

Wedding Photographers in Baltimore

Look, weddings are gorgeous regardless of the weather, or the location; however, a gorgeous wedding at the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House is whatever is BEYOND gorgeous. It's sensational, fantastic, incredible, stunning... all the synonyms for beautiful! Kim and Ross's wedding day was a day filled with happy tears, excited laughter, and... cookies! 1,500 cookies to be exact! Their wedding was one that when Shawn and I left we felt electric, which might have been a combination of the happiness of the day, some sugar from a cookie or two, and the 90s alt rock that the DJ was playing. Whatever it was, we were absolutely buzzing. Ross and Kim, thank you both so much for such a wonderful day. I don't think it could have been any more beautiful. You two are the absolute sweetest! It has been amazing getting to know you both, and witnessing your day was a gift. We hope you have a great time in Cancun with all the jet skis and tropical drinks! Fun stuff from the day! The cookie table cookies were all baked and decorated by Ross' mom, Diane. A true cookie queen! Kim's grandfather was their officiant. Such a sweet bond! Ross and Kim shared their vows privately with just each other (although we stalked them from afar for photos 😜) They had a Budziszewski shot ski. Try saying that 5 times fast... It's actually not that hard now that I just tried it. Ross is a giant Steelers fan...

Jaclyn & Deirdre Mt. Washington Mill Dye House

Wedding Photographers in Baltimore

Fairytales are REAL, and Jaclyn and Deirdre's Mt. Washington Mill Dye House wedding proves that! I'm still not over the fantasticalness of their entire day. From the emotional letter readings before the ceremony to the insanely colorful dance floor, everything was amazing. After two years of planning I expected nothing less than perfection. Due to the pandemic, Jaclyn and Deirdre had to postpone their original wedding date, which was completely heartbreaking. However, walking into their getting ready spaces and knowing we were about to celebrate these two fabulous women and their love was a good kind of overwhelming. Every detail was expertly in place and there was nothing going to stand in the way of FINALLY seeing these two get married! Jaclyn and Deirdre, thank you, thank you, thank you for trusting us to capture such an important day for you both! We are so excited for you two for this next chapter in your relationship! You two are such beautiful individuals and seeing you exchange vows was already the highlight of our 2022!  Cool stuff from the day! This is the first wedding we've had that has played Sissy That Walk by RuPaul 👏... I might have grabbed Shawn and screamed. Their theme was overgrown garden, which is my new favorite theme. There were florals dripping from the ceiling. It was magnificent! People flew in from all over for Deirdre and Jaclyn's day! That just shows how much these two matter to everyone! There wasn't a dry eye...

Melissa & Pat Heron Room

Wedding Photographers in Baltimore

Our final wedding of 2021 did not disappoint! Melissa and Pat's gorgeous wedding day at the Heron Room in Baltimore, Maryland was a colorful showstopper! From stunning florals, to Melissa's sparkly dress there was beauty everywhere!  This day was originally scheduled to happen in November of 2020, but I think at this point we all know what happened last year that caused a lot of big plans to change. No matter, Melissa and Pat forged ahead with a new date and countdown, and when the day arrived, these two were more than ready! Melissa mentioned that she had been planning a styled and meticulous wedding prior to COVID, but thanks to the pandemic, she took on a "hoping for the best" approach. Honestly, I think that is the way to go. If the pandemic taught us anything, it's that weddings are perfect no matter what. Sure, it's natural to have some stress, but as long as the couple gets to be together at the end of the night, the rest is just glitter on top.  Melissa and Pat, we are so excited for you two as you enter this sparkly next chapter of life! Thank you both so much for including us in your day, and allowing us to photograph it. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to finish up the year. You two are the best, and I know your lives are going to continue to be awesome! Cool things from the day...

Chloe & Reid Mary's Meadow

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

Quintessential fall is what Chloe and Reid's wedding day was at the Vineyards at Mary's Meadow in Darlington, Maryland! Seriously, there were rolling clouds across the land, colorful trees, and a brisk breeze in the air. It was so incredibly perfect. There were so many moments during their day that genuinely had me tearing up. From Chloe's first look with her dad, to Chloe and Reid's STUNNING sunset portraits with the horses in the field - I was an emotional mess. I mean, if I wasn't crying I was just going crazy over all the sweetness, which isn't that what all wedding days should be like - a happy kind of bonkers? These two had the most magical day at Mary's Meadow, and when the evening festivities hit, they absolutely did not disappoint. There were people busting out splits, the worm, and some other moves that had no business looking as cool as they did. It was such a phenomenal time that just left me and Shawn buzzing at the end of the night.  Chloe and Reid, thank you both so much! It has been an absolute blast getting to see this evolution of your relationship. I feel honored that we not only got to capture the proposal, but also your gorgeous wedding day. You two are simply the best (with some great taste in music) and this next chapter in your story is guaranteed to be amazing.  Cool things from the day! Chloe's dad made sure to...

Josie & Andre Anchor Inn

Wedding Photographers in Pasadena, Maryland

Is there anything better than a wedding on the water? How about a wedding on a perfect October day at the Anchor Inn in Pasadena, Maryland? Because that is exactly the type of wedding Josie and Andre had! Their October 9th day was absolutely spectacular with amazing weather and such a fun group that came ready to bust out the dance moves on the dance floor. One of my favorite parts of any wedding day are the wedding vows. Obviously, you get a great sense of a relationship through spending time with a couple, but personalized vows are always a bite size piece of personality that give you a sweet sense of how a couple fit together. These two had everything in their vows: promises, laughter, and even some tears. We got to see a glimpse of how special and important they are to each other just through their vows, and we feel so lucky to have witnessed it! Josie and Andre, thank you both so much for having us as your wedding day photographers. It was so great getting to know you both and see your day come together so seamlessly! You both are such wonderfully fun individuals, and watching you both join your families together was such a joy. Your lives meshed😉 so well together before your day, and, believe me, it's only going to get better and stronger from here! Cheers! Some cool memories of the day! The end of the wedding was really just the beginning...

Shelby & Rachael Kylan Barn

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

I am one hundred million percent obsessed with Rachael and Shelby's wedding day at Kylan Barn in Delmar, Maryland! It was such a beautiful day, not only weather wise, but also details wise! A lot of Shelby and Rachael's wedding day involved the creative skills of their family, like Shelby's sister, Crystal and Rachael's sister, Kim. Crystal expertly crafted a lot of the incredible decor and all of the tasty desserts. While Kim mad sure that both brides makeup was on point (and waterproof :P). Watching a couple's family work together in order to create the dream day for them is a truly special thing. It makes a day mean that much more to both the couple, and the guests. Shelby and Rachael, thank you both so much for choosing us to capture your wedding day. It has been a privilege getting to know you two and to experience such a loving, gorgeous day. We are so excited for you two and to see what the future has in store for you both!  Some awesome details from the day! They had visited other farm venues throughout Maryland, but when they pulled up at Kylan then both knew instantly it was their venue. Shelby and Rachael are high school sweethearts. Shelby's sister, Crystal, created a lot of the decor for the wedding: the floral arrangements, the desserts, the cake, the underwear that some of the bridal party wore 😂, and so much more! The flower girls were doing legit gymnastics...

Dani & AJ Hyatt Regency

Wedding Photographers in Cambridge

Fall was in full effect for Dani and AJ's GORGEOUS wedding at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort. Seriously, they could not have asked for a more beautiful day, at a more stunning venue. After seeing their day, and adventuring around the grounds with them, I have said to Shawn multiple times how much I want to do a vacation weekend here. Beginning to end, Dani and AJ's wedding was spectacular. They thought of everything, and Lorin and Sharon from Celebrations, LLC made sure that it all happened for them. I'm still dreaming about their reception space. Dani and AJ, thank you both so much for trusting us to be your wedding day photographers. The day did go by super quick, but I'm so glad that we captured it all. It was a joy getting to meet in person - finally - and celebrate your amazing day. You two have something incredibly special, and I feel honored that Shawn and I were able to witness just a little bit of your magic <3.  Some fun stuff from the day! Dani used her grandmother's ring in the ceremonial ring exchange. Their reception space was filled with roses that Dani's dad remarked were his mother in law's favorite flower <3. The ceremony space was at the end of a very long pier, and because of that, the whole area slightly swayed from side to side. Their vows brought tears to my eyes. One of their signature...

Luisa & Steven Rosemont Springs

Wedding Photographers in Virginia

Oh my gosh, where do I start with Luisa and Steven's summer wedding day! From their florals from Bee Inspired Events to the stunning chandeliers of their reception area - it was all amazing. Their venue, Historic Rosemont Springs, really took a lot of the stress that a couple could feel on their day, and negated it completely. Making sure that Steven and Luisa were well taken care of and that everything went off without a hitch. I mean, I can't say enough wonderful things about the Rosemont Springs coordinator, Monica. She expertly kept the event running smoothly even after a sheet of rain moved through that required her and some of the guests to get soaked clearing the ceremony space. I think the greatest thing about all weddings is how every single one is different. For Luisa and Steven, their day included a beautiful church service with readings and hymns from their church leaders and family members. It was something that we had never seen before and it was so incredibly unique. Luisa and Steven, thank you both so much for allowing us to witness your beautiful day. Your day is one that we will remember for a lifetime! We are so excited for this next chapter in your lives that we hope includes a puppy!! :D Some cool stuff from the day! Luisa and Steven did not exchange rings during the ceremony, they instead exchanged them in private <3. They treated their guests to a gorgeous...

Mary Claire & Ryan Folly Beach

Wedding Photographers in Charleston

You know that feeling when something is happening exactly how it is supposed to? When Mary Claire and Ryan emailed me asking if it was possible for us to travel down to Folly Beach to photograph their wedding, I got that feeling. Yes, their Baltimore based wedding last year did have to be postponed due to COVID. However, the second I read their plan for having us come to South Carolina, I got this overwhelming feeling that THIS was how their day was always supposed to be. Every single person that was there to witness Mary Claire and Ryan's marriage helped in making the day flawless. Mary Claire's mom was sewing and ironing, her brothers (and Ryan) were setting up the ceremony space, and Ryan's family came in ready to help get food going. Each and every guest's mission was for the day to go off without a hitch and they more than succeeded. They created a space that was peaceful and filled with love for Mary Claire and Ryan, and who doesn't want to start their marriage surrounded by that?! Mary Claire & Ryan - first of all, thank you for even letting us in on your "crazy idea". We are so incredibly happy for you two! I know that the devastating speed bump that is COVID made it feel impossible for your wedding vision to come to life, but you two did it and you did it super well! Your day was perfect, and we...

Erica & Aaron The Winslow

Wedding Photographers in Baltimore

I don't think that it can get any better than Erica and Aaron's industrial chic wedding day. Their day at The Winslow in Baltimore, Maryland is one that will stick with me for forever. Seriously, everything from the vows (when Aaron cried), to the speeches (when Erica cried) were sheer perfection. These two truly created a magical, romantic world within The Winslow that I still cannot believe we were lucky enough to witness. When we met up with these two for their engagement session last year, we instantly became big fans of theirs. They are both so loving and caring, and it is completely obvious by the people they surround themselves with how wonderful they are. When you have so many people showing your relationship such incredible love, well, you know your marriage is going to be stellar. By the end of the day we felt so much connection to them, and we hope that their wedding was just the beginning of our friendship! Congratulations, Erica and Aaron! Your marriage, much like your wedding day, is going to be absolutely fantastic. You two are such wonderful individuals and together you can take over the world! Thank you both so much for allowing us to be a small part of the day, and capture all the laughs, tears, and love! Some of the highlights from the day! Aaron's ring was his late father's wedding band. Their officiant was Erica's uncle! We love when family is involved in the major parts of...

Christina & Kevin Antrim 1844

Wedding Photographers in Taneytown

Dusting off the ol' blog to bring you Christina and Kevin's GORGEOUS wedding at Antrim 1844 in Taneytown, Maryland. This was our first big wedding of 2021... the first one that truly felt normal after the year of COVID, and it couldn't have been a better day! After their big wedding turned into a "minimony" last year, their day this year was an opportunity to renew their vows and have the big celebration with all their friends and family. The day was filled with so much happiness, love, and DANCING. Seriously, I don't think we've seen a dance floor that full and with SO much energy in a long time. It was incredible to witness, and we are so happy that we got to capture it! Christina and Kevin, thank you so much for allowing us to be at your wedding celebration. You two are so wonderful, and even though the wait was probably VERY long - you did it! And with incredible style <3.  Some fun moments from the day! Kevin & Christina are high school sweethearts and met on the dance floor at homecoming! Making the dance floor a very important place for them :P. Christina choreographed her and Kevin's first dance. They received a standing ovation after that dance! Christina's something old was a beautiful gold ring from her grandmother. Kevin & Christina's grandmothers served as their flower ladies!  Christina's cousin, Faith, baked THE most beautiful cake we've ever seen...

How COVID-19 will change your wedding

Maryland Photographer

Now that the state of Maryland is starting to reopen from COVID-19, I wanted to open a conversation about our business moving forward. Obviously, there is new information coming out weekly of how businesses can get back to "normal", but our normal, may not be normal for the next business. This pandemic has changed the way we think about health and safety. By laying this out, we hope it encourages our couples, current and future, to start a dialog with us. We know this is stressful, but we also know everyone wants to be smart and informed. Should weddings be considered "large gatherings"? I know that weddings are, by definition, considered a large gathering. It's important to point out that they are different from other sorts of events in that group. At a lot of large gatherings that would include over 100 people, there's not the focus on just two people. At community gatherings, festivals, or conferences, there's a natural sense of distancing that can take place as people stick to their own group. There's not a pull to be close to two particular individuals, or the strong feeling of uniting and reuniting of families.  During a wedding, no one wants to be distanced from the wedding couple. They want to express their congratulations, hug, kiss, dance with them. The wedding couple is a celebrity that EVERYONE in attendance of their day wants to get close to. It may sound dramatic, but at this moment that's...

Haley & Brandon Hebron House

Wedding Photographers in Ellicott City

So weddings are definitely interesting right now. Smaller guests list, social distancing, and masks all make for a different kind of day. Just because it's different, though, doesn't mean it's not incredibly special. If anything, now, more than ever, weddings are even more sentimental. There's not the same feeling of rushing or stress, it's all based in a closeness that, all weddings of course have, but that closeness is much more visible today. Haley and Brandon's wedding at the Historic Hebron House was filled with so much incredible emotion. This was a day to celebrate them and their bond, which is honestly sometimes easy to forget when all of the other aspects of a wedding day take over. One of the coolest things about Haley and Brandon's wedding is that they had SIX officiants. Yes. Six officiants. Their closest friends lead them and the congregation through prayer, the vows, and blessing of marriage. Each friend that spoke and oversaw the day made it that much more special and personal. I now feel like all couples should have their friends officiate their wedding, haha. That might be a tall ask, but seriously, what people know you and your relationship better than the company that you keep and genuinely interact with? This couldn't have been a more perfect day. Truly! Congratulations, Haley and Brandon! It was an honor to be your wedding day photographers. Thank you both for allowing us to capture such a gorgeous time in your lives. We wish you...

Sam & Stefan St. Mark Church

Wedding Photographers in Catonsville

After 4 months of not shooting weddings, WE ARE BACK! I have many things I want to say about quarantine, business, and photography, but I'm saving it for a different post. This post is ALL about Sam and Stefan and their beautiful wedding ceremony at St. Mark Church in Catonsville! Sam and Stefan were originally supposed to exchange vows on April 24th; however, a little thing named COVID-19 threw everything out of wack. Instead, June 7th became their official wedding anniversary, and it could not have been a more perfect day. It was a day where everyone could just happily scream: FINALLY! We got a little extra teary eyed when it came time for the vows, which we immediately started chuckling over because mirroring someone when you try to "hold left hands" is HARD :P. We are so happy for Sam and Stefan! Not only did we get to witness their ceremony, but come July, we'll be ready to celebrate them again at their reception! The greatest thing about weddings is that no matter the date, location, or amount of people in attendance, it's about two lives becoming one. Nothing else matters in that exact moment, except those two people. Since the pandemic has forced a majority of couples to not have their moment with each other, it's been exciting and comforting to see all weddings resume in the smaller capacity. It fills our heart with joy to see this type of happiness again <3. Enjoy their...

Allie & Josh Kurtz's Beach

Wedding Photographers in Pasadena

Winter. Wedding. Greatness! Seriously, Allie and Josh couldn't have asked for a more perfect day than February 1st for their wedding. The weather was great, the rain held off until the evening, and the atmosphere was exciting and beautiful. This was our first time photographing at Kurtz's Beach, and it has very quickly became a favorite venue! The wide open and clean look of the dance floor, the amazing rustic but modern ceremony space, and the ample patio area is what we dream for every location. It was a stunning spot for Allie and Josh to officially start their forever! Leading up to the ceremony, we experienced a first at a wedding: a trick first look. Now, we've done first looks, first touches, no-look first looks (TM pending :P), but we've never had a bride trick the groom by having a groomsman dress up in a wedding dress. It was the most hilariously kept secret, because literally everyone knew about it except for Josh. By the look on Josh's face when he sees Kevin in that dress, I'd say it's something he wishes he never did see (Kevin if you're reading this, we think you make a beautiful bride). There is just nothing better than a wedding day filled with unique personality and wonderful memories. That is a moment that Allie, Josh, and all of their friends and family will remember forever. I mean, they'll remember the whole day, but seriously...Kevin in a wedding dress is memory gold. We...

Meagan & Jake Mt. Washington Mill Dye House

Wedding Photographers in Baltimore

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season! We took some time off, stuffed our faces, and just relaxed! But before all of that, we had Meagan and Jake's GORGEOUS wedding on December 21st! Meagan and Jake are two of the most amazing people. I got to meet these two at a Copper Kitchen and Dye House event last year, so I was really excited to see them again!  Everything was immaculate for Jake and Meagan, and we couldn't have been any more thankful to be photographing it all. They had the best setting, the greatest weather, and the most fantastic people surrounding them. Seriously, from the second we walked into the different getting ready areas we could see how deep and loving every person's relationship was with Meagan and Jake. There was tons of laughter, tears, and giddiness leading up to the ceremony. EVERYONE was excited and it was incredibly energizing! We are so happy for Meagan and Jake. Their day was perfect, and we KNOW their first holiday season as Mr. & Mrs. was a fantastic one. Holiday cheer, newlywed bliss, HELLO?! How can it not be the most amazing time!  Fabulous extras about Meagan & Jake's day! · Meagan's grandma Bea gave THE best speech/poem we've ever heard! · Jake choreographed his and Meagan's first dance. · Their first dance was EPIC! There were flips, twists, and dips. I found myself screaming along with the crowd when it concluded! AHH! · Meagan's grandma...

Erica & Ben Camp Puh'Tok

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

I have SO many things to say about Ben and Erica's gorgeous camp wedding! Not only was their celestial theme on point for Camp Puh'Tok's style, but the level of emotions were next level. Every person involved in the day cried AT LEAST twice (groomsmen...I know one of them must have shed a tear :P). It was such a special and romantic day that captured every ounce of who Ben and Erica are. The whole day was such a calming experience, which feels weird to say about a wedding, but I mean it! Ben and Erica are two of the sweetest and hilarious people who are so easy to feel comfortable around. It's really an amazing superpower when someone has the ability to just make other's feel important. It's even more amazing when there's TWO people with that superpower and they get married to each other. Getting to witness that big moment between Ben and Erica was incredible. We are so happy for these two. We've gotten the chance to hangout with them (& sing some karaoke) leading up to the day and, honestly, they felt like friends right from the start. We feel so honored and thankful for Erica and Ben, and cannot wait to see where life takes them! Cool things from B&E's day! · They were able to capture their musical tastes within their ceremony thanks to Vitamin String Quartet. We heard Sail by AWOLNATION, Snow by Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Get...

Bri & Ryan The Barn at Pleasant Acres

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

Fall showed up and it showed out for Bri and Ryan's Oct 26th wedding! I do not think they could have asked for a more perfect afternoon and evening. Their stunning ceremony location, Jesus the Good Shepherd Church, was bright and amazing. Oh, and the reception spot...oh my goodness. It doesn't get much prettier or rustic than The Barn at Pleasant Acres.  Bri and Ryan are two of the sweetest individuals we have had the pleasure of photographing. They are so kind, and GOOD. They are the type of people you just wish to have inside jokes with, because then it means you're special. Ever since their engagement shoot last June, we had been waiting for their wedding day. So when it finally arrived, we were giddy with excitement for them. They deserve all of the happiness in the world, and we're so glad that we got to celebrate them. Ahh, this day was so great. Every moment from their ceremony, to their cake cutting was filled with so much joy. My favorite moment, hands down, HAS to be when Bri and Ryan sang a hymn together during their ceremony. Their voices....oh my gosh, I need a CD of them for Christmas, please. Their voices are bright, happy, and beautiful. I have no business talking music because I'm not doing them justice, just know, they're fabulous and I would listen to them on repeat.  We cannot thank these two enough for being exactly who they...

Victoria & Josh Peabody Library

Wedding Photographers in Baltimore

"Holy wowzer" is about all I can say about Victoria and Josh's celebration... plus everything else that I'm about to say :P. Victoria and Josh had the most glorious Baltimore reception at the George Peabody Library. Seriously, it doesn't get any more beautiful than that library. It's like stepping into Beauty and the Beast, times a million. Yes, it's BETTER than any fairy tale that Disney could ever think up. Victoria and Josh couldn't have asked for a more perfect day for their grand finale of wedding festivities. After getting married in Italy in August, September was the month of celebration. All of their family and friends were there to cheer them on, chow down on some of the BEST food, and dance the night away. We honestly were in awe of it all, ESPECIALLY the grand reveal of the Library. Everything was such a dream. We are so happy that we got the chance to meet and celebrate Victoria and Josh. Their love is so much fun and filled with adventure. We loved getting to know, them and their reception will forever remain one of our absolute favorites! Congratulations, Victoria and Josh (and Bella :P) Fun stuffs from the day! Victoria and Josh's fur-baby, Bella, made an appearance for family photos, and then had her driver take her back home. So posh! They got to peek at their guests coming into the library from atop the stacks in the secret shadows. Victoria did all of the signage for...

Becca & Cassin Sherwood Forest Clubhouse

Wedding Photographers in Annapolis

Becca and Cassin are married! We couldn't be any more excited for these two! From the second we met for their engagement session, we knew they were calming, fun, and dog lovers :P! Basically a mix of all of our favorite personality types, haha! For their engagement session, we got the chance to photograph around their wedding venue. It was so great to see the area with these two before their wedding, and even better ON their wedding. These two really outdid themselves with the style and design of their day. Becca and her mom did a lot of the designing of both the ceremony and reception spaces. Each space had a classic forest vibe, and with the sunshine coming in during their ceremony...Oh my goodness, gloriousness! Every element was so well thought out. From the venue to the reception music, this day was 100% Becca and Cassin.  We loved getting to spend the day with Becca and Cassin. Seeing them celebrate with their family and friends is really what made the day that much greater. I kid you not, their dance floor was filled from beginning to end. They couldn't have asked for a more perfect day, and we are so happy we got to witness it! Thank you so much, Becca and Cassin, you two are phenomenal, and we hope you're having an AMAZING time in Jamaica! Some amazing highlights from the day! Becca said that the second she saw the chandeliers in the ceremony space...

Krystle & David Main Street Ballroom

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

I'm STILL in tears over the amazingness of Krystle and David's wedding at Main Street Ballroom. Honestly, this is the most gorgeous wedding venue in Ellicott City (sorry other EC venues). There's so many possibilities with it, and Krystle and David COMPLETELY turned it into a dreamland. I knew from the very second we arrived for their at-home engagement session that these two were perfect. A pillow fight, a cooking sesh, and a moment by the water? Seriously, they are a photographer's dream! So the second we pulled up to Main Street Ballroom and saw Flor de Casa doing her thing with a moon arch...I was pinching myself. The entire day I had to keep pinching myself because everyone involved in this day made it absolutely incredible. I was tearing up at Krystle getting into her dress, at the ceremony, at the just married portraits. Basically, there was a lot of crying! Oh my gosh, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect start to September. Krystle and David are two of the most incredible humans. They are two people that you instantly feel like you are friends with, they have the capability of making you feel comfortable and important from the very second you have a conversation with them. We are so happy for them and will be cheers-ing to their marriage with only the best bottle of wine! Some favorite wedding moments! The dance floor! It never stopped, never slowed down, and eventually EVERYONE was on their...

Clara & Alec Liriodendron Mansion

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

Oh my goodness! This wedding season has been amazing. On Saturday we got to celebrate Clara and Alec in Bel Air at the Liriodendron Mansion, which just so happens to be one of our favorite venues! The architecture is amazing, there's a stunning staircase, and the sunsets are perfection. Honestly, it's just gorgeous all the time, no matter what!  I feel like we have been waiting for Clara and Alec's wedding day for forever! It's been over a year since their beautiful engagement session, and, to be real, I was ready for their wedding the second we got to the first location. These two are so incredibly sweet, hilarious, and easy to get along with. They have an incredible sense of humor that Clara's dad described as "unique", which really makes us adore them even more. They aren't afraid to be weird together, and if that's not the foundation of a great relationship - I don't what is, haha!  Their wedding day was filled with such a brilliant amount of happiness. Clara's bridesmaids kept her laughing and enjoying every moment, while Alec's guys chilled and chatted to keep Alec calm (they also struggled with the boutonnière a little :P). There were so many amazing moments during the day, including a serenade from one of Alec's groomsman and the private last dance just between the newlyweds. We loved every single second of their day, and are so honored that we got to capture it all for them...

Tori & Mason Historic Ogle Hall

Wedding Photographers in Annapolis, Maryland

Where do I even start with Tori and Mason's wedding day?! It was gorgeous, intimate, and full of silly moments all around Annapolis. I kind of feel like we took an amazing tour of downtown Annapolis from Calvert House, to Historic Ogle Hall, to Blackwall Hitch. We saw it all with Tori and Mason, and it was the best day ever! Tori and Mason's wedding fit them SO well! It was calm, personal, and beautiful. Their officiant was Mason's brother, their guest list was close family, and their reception dinner was filled with inside jokes. These two light up a room with the way they look at each other, one glance their way and you can tell they are the most amazing complement to each other. They both are hysterical, caring, and have interesting passions that can spark a million conversations (seriously, Mason's history knowledge is INSANE - in a good way). Seeing everyone shower them with so much love was incredible.  Being able to witness and photograph Tori and Mason's wedding is something I've looked forward to since last August. I talked a little bit about it in their engagement blog post, but Tori and I have been friends since high school. Being able to see one of my oldest and dearest friends find her perfect person sends me right over the moon. We will forever be cheering on their marriage, and looking forward to watching this next chapter of their lives! And to Tori and Mason, we...

Rachel & Jake Dulany's Overlook

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

This summer has just gotten even more amazing with Rachel and Jake's wedding at Dulany's Overlook. You can't ask for a more beautiful venue than Dulany's Overlook for ANY wedding season. It's really a perfect location, with a stunning view and so many photo spots. Honestly, I feel like whenever we return, there's a new place to discover and photograph! One things for sure: Rachel and Jake chose an amazing venue to kick off this next chapter of their life. We pretty much fell in love with Rachel and Jake from our first phone call. It was evident right from the beginning that they are calm, go-getters, and incredibly sweet. They have a fabulous relationship that we got to see at their engagement shoot. Then, on the wedding day, we got to experience and hear from the people that they hold near and dear to them. There was nothing but love for Jake and Rachel. From their Ketubah that was hand painted by Jake's mom, to their Rabbis who were all close friends, every piece of the day was filled with such deep appreciation and heart.  It's been an absolute joy getting to know Rachel and Jake. Reliving all of the moments from their wedding has been a major "WOW" time. My favorite moment? When the Captain Cookie truck pulled up immediately following our sunset photos. I've never seen a longer line form so quickly for ice cream sandwiches! Of course the ice cream sandwiches weren't my ONLY...

Stephanie & Marko's Rocklands Farm Wedding

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

Summer is here and the weddings are STUNNING! We cannot contain our excitement over Stephanie and Marko's Rocklands Farm wedding! The weather was sheer perfection, and these two were a treat to hang out with!  One of our favorite moments from Stephanie and Marko's day was, hands down, their first look. I think it must be the anticipation that makes every first look unique and fun. There's the waiting, the nerves, the reveal, and finally the moment you get to see each other. It's a rush of emotions at that very moment that make a first look so special. The second that Marko saw Stephanie, the smile on his face was ginourmous. He was so giddy and excited, and we couldn't help but have this reaction affect us similarly. We cannot thank these two enough for allowing us to capture their long awaited day. These two have been together for 8 years, and it was mentioned on more than one occasion how their union was a long time coming. We feel so honored to have been their photographers. They've already been building a spectacular life together, and we hope this latest chapter is their best one yet! Cheers to Marko and Stephanie!  Enjoy their Rocklands Farms wedding! Vendors that made this day AH-MAZING! Becca & Will's Baltimore City Wedding

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

So we've been waiting for Becca and Will's wedding for what feels like forever. We knew it was going to have all of our favorite things: Will and Becca, Baltimore City, and cotton candy. Is there anything more you actually need? Everything from their ceremony at St. Joseph's Monastery Parish, a church that is extremely special to Becca, to their intimate reception at La Cuchara was fantastic. There was so much friendship and love. Honestly, their day could be the poster for wedding happiness. From our first meeting with Will and Becca, we had a feeling their day would be spectacular. We chatted about food, New York, and....Dungeons and Dragons. I would say the second Will asked us about D&D is the moment we realized these two were going to be a very special couple to us. Since our initial meeting, we have all become for real friends. Sounds weird to say "for real" but our hope with all of our couples is that we legitimately get the chance to hang out and have fun outside of "business". Will and Becca have shown us it can happen, and that come wedding time, we are friends watching friends get married instead of photographer and client. AND we even have the honor of being Becca's first D&D group :P.  Will and Becca have a very special relationship. They complete each other in a way that people don't often get to see. Both of them...

Tony & Rafaela's Springfield Manor Wedding

Wedding Photographers in Maryland

So when the weather says all day rain, what that means in Maryland is that there is a 10% chance of rain for exactly 2 hours. Tony and Rafaela's day will forever be a memorable one. From the tornado watch, to Tony's face FULLY going into the cake, it is a day that we will not forget. Pulling up to the venue, Springfield Manor, with a light drizzle and a light breeze, we knew it was going to be a great wedding. Regardless of what the weather said, we knew the day would be unique.  We've known Tony and his family for almost 5 years now. His sister, Christina, found us in 2014, and ever since that first email in March, we have been welcomed into such a miraculous family. We adore them so much, and they feel so much like our own family. So when Tony reached out about photographing his wedding. Oh my goodness, I started crying happy tears over JUST the engagement! Once I got myself together, I knew there was nothing in this world that would keep Shawn and I from Tony and Rafaela's wedding day. What a completely spectacular day. Like I mentioned, it was supposed to rain the entire day, but that didn't end up happening. About 30 minutes before the ceremony, the rain stopped and then sun peeked out for a little bit. Everything Tony and Rafaela had been dreaming of for their wedding went off without a hitch! They even got...

Nautical Love Wedding at Renditions Golf in Maryland

Emily & Jake

This wedding season is off to an amazing start! On Saturday we got to party it up with Emily and Jake at their BEAUTIFUL wedding at Our Lady of the Fields and Renditions Golf Course. Both spots were absolutely breathtaking and I don't think the day could have been any better.  One of the greatest things about these two is their story. Emily and Jake have known each other since kindergarten, they dated in high school, but went to different colleges and lost touch. However, after 10 years later, they connected at their family church and reignited that spark. Their relationship just gives me so many chills over how chance encounters can impact life <3. A HUGE part of Emily and Jake's day was dedicated to their family. From the church they were married in, to the Polish wedding traditions. Everything had a meaning and purpose. They even had music that allowed both of them a moment to shine with their friends. For Jake, there was "Boys Are Back In Town" that he crowded with his friends to sing along with. And for Emily it was "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", which is obviously the only choice possible! Emily and Jake, thank you so much for allowing us to capture your day! It has been such a treat getting to know you two, and we hope you two are having a blast on your honeymoon. Enjoy that sun! Enjoy their Renditions Golf Wedding! &...

Main Street Ballroom Spring-y Green Wedding

Emily & Matt

What a way to kick off the wedding season! We could not have asked for a better day than Emily and Matt's wedding at Main Street Ballroom in Ellicott City, Maryland! Seriously, every single heart emoji you could think of is exactly what I'm feeling right now! Before diving into the photos, I just want to say that Emily and Matt are amazingly sweet. I totally relate to their silliness and humor! Reflecting over their questionnaire, I couldn't help but tear up over how in-sync they are. I hung on strong for most of the questions, but then Matt wrote: "I know I’m a better Matt when I get to be around Emmy", and I lost it. Ugly tears all over the place. I love a couple where you can read one sentence and just know they are meant for each other. The time leading up to the wedding day only reinforced that feeling. This wasn't the easiest of week for Emily. She was hit with a medical emergency and was out of planning for a short time. In those moments, Matt really helped her a ton to not only feel better, but to remain stress-free. On the wedding day, he constantly was making sure that Emily had everything she needed and was able to relax as much as possible. Even with the hiccup early in the week, that would not stop the excitement and anticipation of the wedding day, though! We cannot say congratulations to Emily and...

The Manor House at Commonwealth Magical Wedding

Andy & Arthur

I can't think of a better way to end the year than with Andy and Arthur's wedding at The Manor House at Commonwealth. It was honestly such a perfect day. Now, it did look like it was going to rain, but that had no impact on the calm and happy mood.  Weddings are absolutely magical to me. I use the word magic to describe weddings 99% of the time because I'm obsessed with the concept. Magic doesn't have to be sparks flying from a wand, or gross ingredients mixed in a cauldron. It can be a feeling. A feeling that leaves your stomach doing flips and ready to do everything. It's exactly what I was feeling the second we saw Andy on Saturday.  Even more exciting? We got to experiment with a new type of wedding portraits. Since both Andy and Arthur weren't feeling a First Look, but wanted photos at the Manor House in the daylight, we tried something else! We've dubbed it the "Save the Surprise" portraits because it has all of the fun of regular portraits, but the groom never sees the bride! Yup, Arthur kept his eyes either closed, or in a different direction from Andy for their first set of portraits. We got to wander around the Manor House with the last bit of daylight AND have Arthur surprised when he saw Andy coming down the aisle. Legitimately Hannah Montana-ing with the best of both worlds.  Ohh, it was such...

Winter Romance at Ceresville Mansion Wedding

Michelle & Arby

I am in love with Michelle and Arby's wedding! Not only did half of it take place at the gorgeous Ceresville Mansion, but it was a day full of so much heart. Yes, of course, weddings are supposed to have a lot of love involved, but Michelle and Arby are different. They are exceptionally calming individuals with such an incredible warmth to them.  To be honest, I knew these two were going to be a dream when I read what Arby had to say about Michelle. His words to describe when he knew Michelle was THE ONE are truly poetic. It was one of those moments where it just kinda hits you like a ton of bricks, out of the blue. We were walking in Baker Park on a beautiful summer afternoon. I remember looking at her, seeing the soft glow of sunshine light up her face and hair in a way I hadn't seen before, and realizing just how lucky I was to have her in my life. At that point everything that was nebulous about my future, about who I was supposed to be and be with, crystallized and became clear. That day I saw her in a different light, both figuratively and literally, and she's been my dream girl ever since! CHILLS, right?! If that doesn't tell you that these two are magic, I don't know what will. Every element of their day was absolutely beautiful. Their ceremony at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, which was...

Chic Love at Mt. Washington Mill Dye House Wedding

Leni & Danny

We have a handful of venues that are our favorites, and Mt. Washington Mill Dye House is one of those places. Every single wedding that takes place at the Dye House is always perfection! I don't know what is about this magical location, but it just brings out the beauty in everything. Coupling that with Leni and Danny's fully realized vision by Celebrations, LLC, the day was elevated more.  There are not enough adjectives in the world to describe our feelings over witnessing Leni and Danny's day. Start to finish, it was full of love, romance, and family. The sense of togetherness was not only present within Leni and Danny's relationship, but also throughout their family and friends. They created a day that was so connected, and welcoming. Honestly, the second we walked into the bridal suite, we didn't just feel like photographers, we felt like friends.  Leni and Danny have this aura around them that is so inviting. They are completely lovely, and when they get to giggling together it's THE sweetest thing. It's gonna sound real creepy, but I adore watching them interact with each other. They are always showing their affection for one another, either in a light back touch, or holding hands. Even the way they look at each other shows the spark of their connection. It's a romance for the ages, and I feel so lucky to see! It only makes sense that the romance had a fairytale wedding day to match. Mt...

Love and Cookies at this Chanteclaire Farm Wedding

Emily & Mario

I have been waiting for Fall to show itself since the beginning of September. Now I realize that it was waiting for Emily and Mario's wedding to make it's grand entrance. Pulling up to Chanteclaire Farm in Friendsville, Maryland was like something out of a movie. Rolling clouds, rod iron gate, and a tree lined gravel road put us in a dreamland right away.  There were more than a few times that Shawn and I BOTH teared up during Emily and Mario's day. The first was when Mario read Emily's card. Her words to her soon-to-be husband were sweet and personal (and they didn't end up picking the same card, which Emily had low-key worried about :P). The second moment that got us was the first look between Emily and her dad. These few minutes ALWAYS get me, especially when dad let's his tears flow. Lastly, the part of the day that got me real good was when we were pulling away from Chanteclaire Farm. Reflecting on the day and the great energy from everyone made me feel so happy for Emily and Mario, I couldn't help but let a few tears fall! These two made this day incredibly sentimental and full of love. Yes, love generally does appear in a wedding day. But what Emily and Mario brought wasn't just love for each other, it was love for every single individual that a part of their day. They have a way of making every person they come in...

Pastel Loveliness at this Country Club of Maryland Wedding

Caitlin & Sean

Caitlin and Sean's wedding at the Country Club of Maryland was a total joy! This was another wedding where the rain couldn't keep a magical day down. Everything from the Oathing Stone ceremony to the Gangnam Style choreography was perfect.  No lie, there are many parts of a day that I tear up at: father daughter dances, toasts, and the bride getting into her dress. The moments that typically have a fair bit of improv to them, always hit me in the feels. The ceremony is generally the one time where my eyes don't get fuzzy with tears. Maybe it's because they mostly follow the same pattern, I'm not really sure. What I am sure of, though, is that Caitlin and Sean's ceremony left me in tears.  Instead of going the traditional route for their ceremony, they instead put a lot of personality into it. Their officiant, Rachael, was an absolute joy, keeping Caitlin and Sean laughing and the guests aware of why they were chosen as witnesses for the day. The ceremony was completely intentional and my favorite part DEFINITELY has to be the Oathing Stone. It was a beautiful moment that extended to their guests in the form of rose quartz stones that each guest received before the start of the ceremony. Those stones played a large part in capturing the well wishes of the guests for Caitlin and Sean. I loved the uniqueness and guest involvement in this kind of unity ritual!  Both Caitlin...

I Love the 80's with Celebrations at the Bay DIY Wedding

Leise & Chris

Oooookay, people, are you ready for this?! We've seen DIY weddings and we've heard the 80's music, but very rarely do the two join forces. That is, until Leise and Chris's wedding at Celebrations at the Bay. Where the bay, 80's neon, and Journey culminated into a really wonderful ceremony and reception.  Leise and Chris went above and beyond to treat their guests to a fabulous day. They both worked on so many DIY elements to make the wedding really theirs. A lot of times, we think "do it yourself" is to save on costs, but in reality, it's because stores don't specialize to our brains. Making exactly what we want is sometimes easier and makes the day an even bigger treasure. Leise put together so many large scale items such as the centerpieces, the welcome canvas, the photobooth, and their love story sign! Outside of the DIY, there was also the special favors that were brought from the Phillippines all the way to Pasadena, Maryland. Leise's parents carefully traveled with tons of mini guitars made out of seashells that were so unbelievably beautiful. They even thought of us, and gave us our own mini wooden guitars. It was sweet and unexpected! I may or may not have teared up when I opened the gift <3. Speaking of tears, the surprise that Leise got for Chris during the ceremony was COMPLETELY amazing! Leise wrote to me about two weeks that she had arranged for two singers...

Weddings, Engagements, Families - OH MY!

2017 Yearly Review

Welp, 2017 is drawing to a close, and it's that time again. Time to look back on the year and talk about the good, the great, and the surprises! In previous years I've made multiple posts for weddings and engagements, but I wanted to switch it up a bit and have them all together. A few of our wedding couples this year also had their engagement photos done in 2017, so I figured it would be adorable to do little side by side comparisons for those! Kind of like a before and after, only both times it's pretty and sweet, haha! But before I get to sharing, I have to gush a little bit first.   Weddings This year's weddings have been phenomenal. We've learned a lot, met a ton of great people, and have experienced some truly amazing events. Every time I think a wedding can't reinvent itself, it does! I'm honestly shocked at the amount of heart, love, and the occasional tears that go into every single wedding to make it unique and one of a kind. This year, we photographed 19 weddings. N-I-N-E-T-E-E-N. That's the most we've ever had and we can be more grateful for everyone that we got to capture. I'm tearing up a little bit, because I want to be honest and say that next year isn't shaping up to be the same. It's a little bittersweet to reflect on this time now, because I don't think next year will be even remotely as...

Snow + Catonsville = An Unforgettable Wedding

Leah & Kevin

What better way to end the 2017 season than with a snowy wedding?! I don't think there is a better way, to be quite honest. I am a big fan of snow and have been dreaming of a winter wonderland wedding forever. Most people think that any sort of moisture in the air during a big event is awful, but no! Snow is grand, and when combined with an adorable chapel in Catonsville, it's perfection! Leah and Kevin could not have asked for a more beautiful day. Start to finish these two had everything timed out and orderly. It's not everyday that a bride and groom run ahead of schedule, but when they do, it's heaven! One of my favorite details of the day was that a lot of the bridal party consisted of couples. To me, that showed a great bond between each and every one of their friends. They are all so close (and hilarious); it was an absolute joy getting to see them all stand up next to Leah and Kevin.  Ever since their engagement shoot over the summer, I knew these two had great things planned for their day. If you're having trouble remembering, they played in the river! If that doesn't show you how awesome a couple is, I don't know what will. But, as everyone says, you can plan a lot, but you can't plan the weather. Fortunately for Leah and Kevin, I think they both DID plan this weather, haha! The air...

Gorgeous Family Moments at Dulany's Overlook

Erin & Chris

The most important thing in any wedding is, of course, the couple. Celebrating their love and sharing it with family and friends is a fabulous gift. However, for Erin and Chris's day at Dulany's Overlook, there were two people that mattered just as much as the couple: Chris's sons, Reece and Carson. It was a truly special moment watching these four seal their bond during the ceremony, and continue to do so during the reception. There's a deep love that each of them shares with each other, and getting to witness that was the highlight of our season. Also, Reece and Carson continue to be the most respectful brothers I've seen! Before I get to the parts of the day that made me cry like a baby, I first want to talk about the hard work this bridal party put into Erin and Chris's day. This group really put time, effort, and a lot of love into making sure the wedding was sheer perfection. Of course, there was the coordinator at Dulany's Overlook who was also completely brilliant. But this collection of friends and family went above and beyond. Their hustle for the setup totally paid off, too. The decor was absolutely stunning, with burgundy and sage being their main colors. Erin said that it fits in so well with the fall season, but also has a little touch of winter to it, which I totally agree with!  The day may have been relatively chilly (the first signs of...

Fall Showed Up For This Mountain Branch Wedding

Amanda & Jim

Fall has been having a difficult time deciding if it wants to be around or not. There's been a slow change to the trees, but still 70 degree weather! I'm not mad about it, though. Especially when it makes the view from Amanda and Jim's wedding absolutely breathtaking. I'm convinced that Mountain Branch Golf Club was created for the Fall. The overlook, the trees, the red and stone building - it's total perfection! It all works so well with the orange and yellow of the season.  Amanda and Jim couldn't have asked for a greater day to exchange vows. Dare I say that it was almost too warm on November 3rd? Nahhh, I won't! Everything worked so well in their favor, considering the rest of the weekend was gloomy skies. Besides their expert date picking, I need to talk about the decor they had. These two put a lot of hours into picking and creating their chic decorations. Jim created their centerpieces by hollowing out wooden stumps, then sealing and testing to make sure his craftmanship was on point. Their vision came together incredibly well, and it's because they worked together to create a dream like reception space. Okay, the time has come where I dedicate an entire passage to the epicness that was the reception. First of all, Amanda and her friends can dance. Every time Shawn and I thought they were taking a break, an N'SYNC song would come on and they'd all be back out there...

Timeless and Chic Mount Airy Backyard Wedding

Arianna & Tyler

Can someone pinch me, please? I'm pretty sure I dreamed Arianna and Tyler's gorgeous day. It was that perfect! These two really transformed Arianna's childhood home in Mount Airy, Maryland into a wedding extravaganza that knocked me completely off my feet. I honestly cannot pick out just one single thing I love about these two; there's too much to list. However, if I had to pick one, it's the way they communicate. Arianna and Tyler can have an entire conversation in either inside jokes or quick looks. The latter really showed in the cake cutting where Arianna used her eyes to warn Tyler not to pull any cake smashing stuff. He saw her loud and clear, thankfully 😋. Yes, they've been together for over 10 years, but I think the most impressive thing is how they continue to find ways to bring each other joy. The smile on Arianna's face and the sweet way Tyler looks at her shows that their love is a "once in a lifetime" kind of love. Okay, I'm starting to tear up thinking about them, so I need to go back to gushing about this wedding. I feel like if I got the chance to do Shawn and my wedding all over again, I would hire Arianna and have a celebration to end all celebrations. Arianna totally knocked it out of the park. From the signage to the floral arrangements, everything had a plan. Oh yes, I did say floral arrangements, because Arianna put...

Married Under the Stars at Historic Savage Mill Manor

Brittany & Dan

I'm blown away by the celestial greatness that is Brittany and Dan's wedding. Seriously, they had the most unique vision for their day, and they rocked it. This was our first time at the Historic Savage Mill Manor, and it could not have been a better introduction. Everything about this venue is perfect. There's a handsome groom suite, a gorgeous ceremony backdrop, and classic great room for the reception. It offers everything a couple needs all within the walls of the manor.  Now, I'm not gonna lie, I was nervous leading up to Britt and Dan's day. Their ceremony was going to be at night, and that was a first for us! We've done portraits at night, but never a whole ceremony. It was hard for me to visualize how it'd all work, and I must have practiced different light setups 100 times. Walking into the Manor, though, the most incredible feeling came over me. I was ready to push myself creatively and embrace the uniqueness. Oh, and Shawn was cool as a cucumber, per usual :P. This wedding worked so friggin' well. Their entire evening was incredibly celestial, from the ceremony under the stars to the constellation seating chart. Brittany even gifted her bridesmaids with necklaces that represented their zodiac symbols. Everything just clicked for this wedding. Brittany and Dan's didn't overwhelm with their details, and they didn't underwhelm them either. It was truly an (inter)stellar night! By far, my favorite part of the evening was the ceremony...

Nostalgic Love in an Arbutus Backyard Wedding

Sarah & Brandon

Can I say that never in a million years did I think a wedding would happen so close to home? Literally right next door! My husband and I live in Arbutus, Maryland. A sweet little town that has its own Post Office, comic book store, and movie theater; everything a person needs. The homes aren't cookie cutter, but they all contain the same amount of comfort. Sarah and I have lived close to one another since I moved up here when I was 12. I'd always see her and her siblings playing in the backyard, having a blast with their dog, Holly. So seeing Sarah and Brandon exchange vows in the same backyard was phenomenal. The day started with a very easy commute. With a quick walk right next door. Sarah had everything ready for me, and the entire day had a very light and easy feel. If Sarah was stressed, she didn't show it at all! The guys were even less nervous, spending the afternoon playing Halo, haha! I love wedding days that flow so smoothly. These two have been planning their day for an entire year, so the fact that it all easily fell into place was a true gift.  Since we had been watching the setup of the day from our bathroom window, we were excited to see it all up close! I totally wasn't expecting a complete transformation of the backyard. When we stepped into the ceremony area I was in awe. Sarah's mom, Kim...

Warmth and Comfort at Caboose Farm

Samantha & Doug

Saturday kicked off a marathon of weddings for us. For the next 6 weeks, we have a wedding a week. Following that, we head to Ireland! At first Ireland was going to be a treat for our work, but if all the weddings are like Sam and Doug's, the weddings will be the gift! The second we saw that train caboose on the lawn of the aptly named Caboose Farm, we were hooked. We knew in the first second why Sam and Doug chose this venue. It's a such a beautiful spot that really works hard for their couples.  The best part about Sam and Doug is that they are incredibly laid back. We usually see brides wanting to go into hiding 30 minutes before the ceremony. Well, not Sam. She actually laughed at the timeline when she saw "goes into hiding". Instead of staying out of the eye of their guests, Sam was waving to them as they passed by. They both brought such a calm and fun atmosphere to the wedding. I mean, even traveling from the reception space / getting ready house / parking lot to the ceremony spot was cool because it was hay ride! Yes, these two had a hay ride over to their ceremony. Good luck to anyone trying to top that, haha!  There is no way that the day could have gone any better. The joy of seeing these two families come together is always my favorite aspect of any...

A Perfect Wedding Celebration at Rocklands Farm

Jeannine & Pema

There's no other way to describe Jeannine and Pema's day other than "fantastic." The weather, the venue, the couple - it all came together so smoothly. Rocklands Farm is a beautiful location, start to finish. Pairing that with Simply Fresh Events, well, you can't go wrong. This was our first time at Rocklands Farm and I was in awe when we pulled up. It's a gorgeous estate with a big red barn and lovely vineyards. Best of all, it's all very close together. My brain definitely went into overdrive the second we arrived, haha! At the center of all this perfection is, of course, Jeannine and Pema. These two were legally married in July, but saved the party for September. Totally brilliant, since July was super warm this year! They had all of the details beautifully planned, from the dessert table (that Jeannine's Aunt baked and setup), to the backyard cocktail hour. Jeannine's dress was also out of this world. Like, there's unique, and then there's Jeannine's stunning tea length dress trimmed in navy lace. I am so in love with it!  I couldn't get enough of all the tasteful decor. Everything fit the day so well, including the band, Sookey Jump, which includes Jeannine's dad as a member. There's no getting over the easy going flow of the day. It was the greatest way to kick off a loving marriage! Congratulations to Jeannine and Pema! We had the best time celebrating, jamming out to all of...

A Mt. Washington Mill Dye House Stunner Wedding

Aimee & Mike

I love a good rain wedding. I realize I sound like a crazy person, but stick with me. If a couple is adventurous and recognizes that rain "ain't no thang," there are some truly amazing opportunities. Aimee and Mike's wedding at the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House was all sorts of unique, even if there was no rain. Adding in a little drizzle made the day extra fun. We were able to explore different areas, appreciate the bright greenery, and even clean out our car so we could act as a mini shuttle. It was all really, really great! I felt like the bond we had with these two along with their bridal party was strengthened because of the weather.  There is something about Aimee and Mike that makes us feel so totally at peace. I don't know if it's their calming nature, Aimee's incredible organization, or the fact that we just adore them. Whatever it is, we can't get enough. When a couple is so flexible with photos, I can't ask for anything more. We knew these two were up for anything at their engagement session. Aimee, with a freshly stitched knee, "jumped" over fences (with Mike's help). They climbed over rocks and did everything with a smile on their faces. I believe that is the moment Shawn and I fell in love with these two, haha! Their wedding was no different (save for the knee wound). They both were ready to have fun and...

A Must-See Emory Grove Hotel Wedding

Christa & Grant

Pulling up to the Emory Grove Hotel, I was armed with my weather app and rain coat. Shawn and I were so ready for crazy elements, because the entire week there was a 100% chance of thunderstorms. But wouldn't you know, there was someone looking out for these two, and the rain didn't come until we were all safely indoors eating dinner.  A wedding like Grant and Christa's doesn't happen often. The family bond, the friends surrounding them, and the sense of togetherness all fit into the day perfectly. There's an electricity in the air that let's you know "this is going to be awesome" - and it was. My absolute favorite moment has to be when Christa opened her gift from Grant. Neatly packaged was a sweet note, a bible given to Grant for his dedication as a baby, and a bracelet Grant had bought while in Zambia before meeting Christa. Gifts that were destined for Grant's future wife that he had kept specifically for the wedding day. I'm getting chills all over again!  If there is ever two people that deserve all the love and happiness in the world, it's these two. They simultaneously kept so many wedding traditions, while also making the day unique. Their ceremony decor in the tabernacle reflected their rustic Americana inspiration, while the recessional parade made every single guest feel like they had a role in the wedding. No detail was too small to be thought about, which made the...

5 of the Best Groom Reactions

Wedding Day Cheer

You know how sometimes you just need to do something that will make you smile? Not anything ridiculous, just something that will make you feel good. This week, I've been working on some pretty exciting things, but I gotta admit: I'm feeling a little tired. I needed this post to just be me writing about something I adore, and one of my favorite things is amazing groom reactions. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a dude that isn't afraid to share his heart.  Over the years, we have seen many different groom reactions. There's been laughter, deep breathing, tears, and so many more. Every groom reaction is so full of joy and it truly makes the wedding feel complete. We've seen guests, of course, be excited to see the bride, but what we see more of are guests taking bets on a great reaction from the groom. It's so funny to watch grandpa study the face of his grandson, waiting for the reaction of a lifetime.  At this point in the season, we've experienced a full gamut of emotions. The groom reactions have been extra stellar this year, and I really just want to show off a handful of them. Like I said earlier, these images all make me feel ridiculously happy, and I wanted to bottle that happiness up into a blog post :).  1. Smiling so hard your jaw hurts 2. "Can you believe this?!" 3. A quick moment of...

A Sweet Liriodendron Mansion Wedding

Melissa & JJ

Melissa and JJ couldn't have asked for a more gorgeous day at the Liriodendron Mansion. The temperature was great, the Maryland humidity was manageable, and the 70% chance of rain never materialized! It was what you expect for a perfect summer day, and it makes me so happy that it fell on Melissa and JJ's wedding! Before I go jumping in, this place may look very familiar. Well, that's because we actually shot another wedding there the previous evening! The Liriodendron is so grand, we chose to hit it up the very next day, haha! Seriously, though, this venue is absolutely so stunning. Melissa and JJ found THE greatest venue for their vows and gathering of loved ones. I think the awe of this venue hits everyone a little differently. Some people walk right through to the ceremony space, face the mansion, and get are awed with all the architectural beauty. Others see what's going on inside of the mansion, and are charmed by the history. It's a fantastic place to kick off your lives together and give your guests more than they ever bargained for ;P. Something I really enjoyed about Melissa and JJ's wedding is that they fit so well together. Not only as a couple, but also with their families. Melissa's three niece's adore JJ, and it was THE cutest thing to see them grab his arm and just hold onto him. I feel like kids are the ultimate judges of character, and the way JJ interacts...

An Inspiring Liriodendron Mansion Wedding

Jillian & Robbie

What an incredible wedding to witness! Jillian and Robbie are married and I am still lost in all of the wonderfulness. I'm sure my excitement was obvious from their engagement spotlight. However, their day at the Liriodendron Mansion was even better than I imagined. The emotions were so powerful, and everyone was so happy for these two. It was a fantastic gathering in a gorgeous space! Pulling up to the Liriodendron Mansion, I was instantly hit with so much joy. I expected Shawn to tell me to get it together, but he was also feeling giddy. I cannot stress enough how great of an impact these two left on us. Their sweetness and love for one another is one of a kind. Right before their first look, Robbie's hands were shaking, but when he finally saw Jillian, the nerves calmed a bit and the biggest smile spread across his face. They immediately wrapped each other up in comforting hugs and started giggling.  When it came time for the ceremony, the sun was shining and the mood was pure elation. Seriously, about a week ago, the forecast was nothing but rain. But now that the day had arrived, the most gorgeous golden light shown through the trees. I honestly do not believe these two could have asked for a more perfect day! Their handwritten vows to each other, the little smirks Jillian kept passing to Robbie, and Robbie's mom holding on tight to her dad's hand. It all added to...

An Intimate Matthew's 1600 Restaurant Wedding

Michelle and George

Saturday was a day of double celebrating. For starters, we had Michelle and George's wedding in Catonsville, Maryland at Salem Lutheran Church and Matthew's 1600. Then we were also celebrating my birthday! What better gift is there than doing what you love?! Not to mention that the weather was out of this world. Blue skies, sunny, and the perfect temperature. I don't think there is anything better than that! Leading up to Michelle and George's day, there was a lot of heartbreak. Michelle's father passed away right before Christmas, and I know the powerful emotions that come from that type of loss. Then in April, they had to say goodbye to Michelle's dog, Wrigley, who became George's best friend as well. It was not the easiest path to the wedding day, but these two held onto each other tighter and tighter through every storm. Even though the pain will never completely go away, having each other will help it ease little by little. It was such a joy to be involved in this day. Everything from Michelle getting ready to the thank you speech at dinner was filled with elation. The intimacy in the wedding allowed for them to celebrate with all of their closest friends and family on a very personal level. They chatted and laughed with every single person. I know that at the end of the evening, everyone was able to feel like they were a big part of the wedding. Michelle and George are so incredibly...

A Dreamy Mt. Washington Mill Dye House Wedding

Kaitlin & Ben

Holy cow! I cannot believe that Kaitlin and Ben are married! It was every great feeling in the world coming together for a magical day at the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House. This has been a day that I've been looking forward to since the very first phone call with Kaitlin and Ben. I knew these two were perfect when chatting with both of them on separate occasions and hearing how equally excited they were to marry each other. It was one of those moments where you could just hear the person smiling on the other end of the phone. I may have squealed more than a few times during those conversations (classic Britney). My eagerness for this day was crazy. I woke up on both Wednesday and Thursday last week thinking that it was Friday because I was so ready for their wedding. Rain was nowhere in sight, the air was summery, and the mood was 100% perfect for Kaitlin and Ben's wedding. All of those wonderful feelings culminated into a first look that was filled to the brim with so many emotions. Ben had been saying all day how he wasn't nervous, and I truly believe he had 0 nerves. What he did have, though, was an incredible amount of anticipation to see Kaitlin. When that time came, his heart started pounding and he could not keep the happiness inside. Their first look was totally amazing, and Kaitlin was right: Ben did cry! All the special moments in...

Montego Bay, Jamaica a Fabulously Caribbean Wedding

Katelynn & John

Katelynn and John are married! I, for one, could not be any happier for these two. We were hyped the second we stepped foot on the plane from Baltimore to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Not just because this was our first international wedding, but because Katelynn and John are two of the loveliest and sweetest individuals. Whenever we get to see people come together with this much love and support for one another, it's amazing. I may be tearing up right now, but no worries, I'm totally able to complete this post, haha! I don't think these two could have asked for a more beautiful day. For starters, they were married in Jamaica, where the beauty is always overflowing. But they also had an intimacy to their day that was so thoughtful. The vibe was so relaxed. John's exact words when asked if he was ready: "I'm marrying my best friend... what is there to be nervous about?"  How flippin' cute and true. There's nothing to be worried about when you know your making the best decision ever. When it came time for their sunset ceremony, it was already quite an emotionally exciting day. When Katelynn's cousin got up to speak, I'm pretty sure everyone had to take a moment to wipe their tears. Her words were perfect. Getting to see the strength that John gives to Katelynn is really wonderful. I know first hand the love that is required after losing a parent, and seeing the...

A Rustically Chic Robin Hill Farm Wedding

Alyssa & Ryan

Saturday was such a perfect day for a wedding! Especially when combined with the views that Robin Hill Farm provides. It was breath-taking, and I knew before we arrived that this wedding was going to be spectacular. The rustic charm of the barn (heh, rhymes), the greenery of fields, the sunset - it was all amazing! I loved every ounce of personality that Alyssa and Ryan put into their decorations and their day. The rustic, chic vibe fit them perfectly. I always feel that the ceremony is like a movie trailer. The hype starts as guests begin taking their seats, you see the excitement from the groom, and then - the big moment - the reveal of the bride. Everyone does a little gasp, and a collective "aww," and a few eyes may start to water. Alyssa and Ryan's ceremony was exactly that: wonderful and thrilling. It made me so happy to see these two come together and really be present for every moment. We even got some laughs from the tightly tied rings that best man, Cody, was tasked to unravel. The ceremony really set the stage for the rest of this fantastic day. After their vows, we headed out for a few portraits before dinner and dancing. I am seriously in love with everything at Robin Hill Farm. They have such a serene landscape that I could not stop saying "wow" over. Honestly, I could have spent the entire evening photographing Alyssa and Ryan in...

A Beautiful Dockside Wedding at the Anchor Inn

Megan & Dave

Holy cow, talk about a stunning day! Megan and Dave's wedding at Anchor Inn in Pasadena couldn't have been more perfect, even if it tried! From the waterfront views, to the beautiful weather - the day was just great. The thing I love about the Anchor Inn is how the sun filters into the reception space. It gives every single detail an ethereal glow that makes me melt. The space is so incredible and it takes my breath away. Before fully diving into the day, I have to say: I love a groom that is involved with the wedding and has fun with it. In my questionnaire, there is a vendor information space. I always like to give credit where credit is due, so I compile a list of the vendors for things like this blog. One of the biggest vendors involved is, of course, the wedding planner name. For Megan and Dave, the wedding planner was ... Dave! Now, I know that he was the one filling in the questionnaire, so I feel like creative liberty may have been used at some points. But still, it's evident how much these two worked together to create such a gorgeous day. Add all of Dave's funny comments throughout the questionnaire to my adoration, and these two are my new best friends (whether they accept it or not :P). Each and every piece of the day held a part of them. From the love bench that acted as a guest book...

A Stunning Pier 5 Hotel Wedding in Baltimore

Chelsea & Ryan

Chelsea and Ryan are married! Oh my goodness, the day could not have been more perfect. With awesome details, lovely emotions, and a little replica of their cute pup, Koda, as their cake topper - it was all amazing. I've been in awe of their Pier 5 Hotel wedding since Saturday, and - honestly - I hope that feeling never ends. It's been an incredible two years getting to know Chelsea and Ryan. Their day is one that I've been looking forward to for such a long time. Of course, I'm totally happy that we now have all of these gorgeous images to share, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit sad that the day is over. 100% my favorite moment will always be Chelsea's first look with her dad. I was not expecting the wave of emotions that hit everyone to happen, but it was beautiful. It seriously took me a minute to gather myself, and thankfully there was a pile of umbrellas that I could fumble with to make it look like I wasn't crying, haha! Once we all composed ourselves, we made our way to the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Baltimore, which is absolutely stunning. It was a breathtaking ceremony to witness, but the what blew me away the most was the gathering after the marriage declarations. Both families came together in a very tearful and emotionally charged moment that just about made my heart explode. Afterwards, we all hopped...

An Enchanting Wedding at Fort Myer

Kristin & Andrew

This has been the hardest blog to write. Not because of a lack of words, but because I could talk about Kristin and Andrew for days. I have been so excited for their wedding since we first met on Google Hangouts two Decembers ago. As I expected, their day was absolutely gorgeous. The weather was on point and their location at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia is a total stunner. My favorite detail has to be the history of Old Post Chapel where Kristin and Andrew had their ceremony. About 44 years ago, Kristin's parents had their wedding in this chapel and her sister had her wedding there just a few years ago. That little sentimental fact still has me smiling, since it's little personal things that highlight the couple and makes each wedding unique. I know I mentioned it in their spotlight post, but I don't mind reiterating that these two are the greatest. Shawn and I were well aware that we were going to have fun with these two. What we didn't know was we would leave their day with an immense feeling of friendship. They care so much about the people in their lives, and that extended to us on Saturday. Their sweet and genuine personalities left us feeling so incredibly happy. The simple act of gathering the photos for this blog post filled me with so much joy. Especially when I think about the A+ dolphin sounds Kristin would make to keep Andrew laughing during portraits...

Wedding Favorites of the Year

See Ya Later, 2016

Today has been the blog I have been most looking forward to since January! It's time for the wedding favorites of 2016! I love this time so much because it always brings back so many wonderful memories. From rainy days to 100 degree days, weddings are my absolute favorite. I feel so much joy when looking back at all the couples we've gotten to interact with. Every single one of them have been so good to us and given us a greater purpose in our business. This year in particular has been hugely instrumental to the changes that are coming in 2017. From website updates, to small changes in our interactions. I feel like 2016 has been a year of great influence to our lives and we just cannot thank our couples enough. Shawn and I do not take for granted a single ounce of the love and support that our couples give to us. Shawn can attest that the thank you cards that we receive always bring such a huge smile to my face. They honestly make our day. It's interesting that sharing our wedding favorites year in and year out is really more of an excuse to brag about how wonderful the people in our lives are. I could seriously go on forever about the sweetness between Sara and Charlie during their first dance. The bravery that Emily and Jon shared going out in the rain for portraits. The laughter from Alyssa as Matthew started break dancing...

Why We Do Weddings

Hint: Because We Love You

The off-season always gives us time to reflect on our business. It gives us the opportunity to invest in our education and really dig deep while there's less on our plate. To answer the questions of how to improve, we have to first consider our foundation. For this reason, I've been spending time lately exploring about why we do weddings. No, I'm not suffering a quarter life crisis, and I'm not planning to do anything but grow, but thinking about our why helps me as photographer and entrepreneur. I've been photographing weddings since 2011. While I enjoyed what I was doing back then, I never gave it much thought into why I was doing it. I certainly did not envision my business going this far, either. It wasn't until 2016 that I felt the strong urge to relax my brain, take a minute to unwind, and figure out my photographic drive. Shawn posted an article about a Groom's role in his wedding a few months ago, and I felt a fire light underneath me. I realized after reading the post and having more discussions that we've always focused on not just the bride but both people in the relationship. We strive to make both sides feel important because they both are. We have been in their shoes, and know what it's like going through the wedding process. It's natural for us to be empathetic to all the love, concerns, stress, and gratitude that goes into such an important event. Feeling...

A Fall Wedding at the Annapolis Court House

Savanah & Douglas

Why does it feel like the leaves are just now changing? It's the middle of November, and we are now experiencing all of the beautiful yellow and orange trees. I'm honestly kind of glad it was delayed. It meant that the colors were in full effect for Savanah and Douglas's wedding at the Annapolis Court House. The perfect sunny glow lighting through the brancehs at the Maryland State House left me speechless more than a few times during portraits, haha! One of the many things I loved about Savanah and Douglas's wedding was how they injected tradition into it. Most couples think that by having their wedding at the court house, they can't do a lot of the things that take place at any other wedding. They feel they have to sacrifice bits and pieces of their dream day, but in reality, they don't. Savanah and Douglas proved that on their big day. Everything from their first look, to Savanah's walk down the aisle made their day one of a kind. They had a vision and they didn't fit their day into the typical elopement frame, which made us love them even more. This year has been such a joy in getting to know our couples. We get to experience one of the sweetest moments in a relationship and photograph it to keep memories forever! Even though we didn't get to spend as much time with Savanah and Douglas during the day, their love for each other shines. Just...

Thank You So Much

Personal With a Touch of Sappy

It's officially that time when the holidays start gearing up, and we take a break from being behind the camera. It's the end of the 2016 wedding season and we feel great. Our level of enthusiasm isn't because we get our weekends back, but from a place of thanks. This year, 15 couples let us in to their lives to capture the start of their forever. I never in a million years thought we would be at this place, photographing wonderful people on their gorgeous day. My heart is unbelievably full today, which is why I need to say thank you. I'm starting to tear up a little bit just thinking of every smile, laugh, and (obviously) tear that occurred over this season and all the ones prior. Over five years ago, I shot my first wedding. It was for a good friend, and I had no idea what I was doing. I called upon all my schooling when it came to posing and lighting, and I practiced so much. However, nothing could prepare me for that day. The weather was rainy, I couldn't figure out my flash, and I didn't know how to assert myself. I felt like a complete failure, and as I packed up, I told myself I would never do another wedding. But then my friend came up to me and wrapped me up in the biggest hug in the world. It was in that hug and through her excitement having me as her photographer...

What Do I Do With My Hands?!

Tips & Tricks

We photograph a lot of couples and groups, each with their own collection of unique traits and attitudes. It's a lot of fun to get to know these different people and what makes them special, but it's also interesting to see common threads that link everyone together. Sometimes, it's a pure excitement to be in front of the camera, and other times it's a lack of confidence in modeling abilities. Couples or individuals have warned us before-hand that they feel they aren't photogenic or great at having their picture take. But we have awesome news to the doubters: it's impossible for us to not capture gorgeous images of you! We're not just saying that idly, either, since everyone has the capability to look stunning, no matter what. You can trust in our experience as professional photographers that we will find the perfect way to present you. One of the most common concerns that we get from those who lack faith is not knowing how to pose, specifically on what to do with hands. Hands can be awkward when left hanging at your side, but they need to be comfortable and not distracting when placed elsewhere. During sessions, we've seen people situate their hands three or four different times trying to find a spot that works. We definitely provide instruction when this problem arises, but we understand that having the information before the session is the difference between eager for a session or being scared of it. The tips below apply...

A Beautiful Dulany's Overlook Wedding

Chelsey & Taylor

Goodness gracious, today's blog is absolutely fabulous! On Sunday, Shawn and I traveled out to Dulany's Overlook in Frederick for Chelsey and Taylor's rustically fall wedding. Pulling up with the scenery left my jaw on the ground. As you drive up the long driveway, the estate appears like something out of a Disney movie, and I fell in love immediately. Inside the house, every room is so immaculate, it's like they were taken straight out of a magazine. There is so much charm at Dulany's Overlook, I couldn't pick my favorite section if I had to. It was one of the most gorgeous fall days. The sun warmed the air and kept everything bright and cheery for their ceremony in the trees. Surrounded by orange and crimson leaves, these two could not have planned for better weather to celebrate their union. There is something incredibly special about Chelsey and Taylor. When they are together, it's awe inspiring. I can say without a doubt that the only nerves from the day were because they were so ready to be husband and wife. Both Chelsey and Taylor were calm during the walk down the aisle. I know the second they met at the end of the aisle I had tears rolling down my cheeks. After the ceremony, there were plenty of people were outside and enjoying the cocktail hour before dinner. The reception space took place in a beautiful barn with enough space for lawn games out back. My favorite part...

A Gorgeous Patapsco Female Institute Fall Wedding

Sara & Shawn

Oh, do I have a treat for you all today! I'm not just saying that because it's Halloween, either. On Saturday, Shawn and I photographed the most gorgeous wedding at the Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City. You may recognize this venue from the styled shoot Marlayna and I did in March. A truly stunning location with exposed beams, a grand staircase, and the most excellent stonework. After the styled shoot, I was dreaming of having a wedding at this spot. When Sara and Shawn contacted me about being their wedding photographer, I was over the moon with excitement. It means so much to me that we were able to go back to this spot and build new memories there. Building our relationship with Sara and Shawn has really been a wonderful experience. Chatting with them, we were able to learn how much they love Ellicott City and how important this venue is to them. From the proposal, which consisted of a hike through the city, to having romantic dinners in the historic location, getting to know them has been a highlight of our year. When the flood struck Main Street, one of the first things Sara and I bonded over was our immense need to help. It was incredible to talk with her and to share our stories of a place that means a lot to us. One of the things that I cherish during a wedding day is seeing the couple interact with their guests. Sara and Shawn's...

Locally Grown & Sustainable Love Styled Shoot

Baltimore Bride Feature

Our locally grown styled shoot is one that I have been waiting to share since September! Not only is it low-key and intimately sweet, but it is also jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Much like the previous styled shoot Marlayna and I did, the vendors that we worked with completely knocked it out of the park. From the table florals to our bride's make-up, it is all stunning. Everyone worked so hard to make this shoot feel like a beautiful dream. It has totally paid off with our Baltimore Bride feature. Check out our Locally Grown feature on Baltimore Bride! My favorite part about this shoot has to be that the vendors we used are all from the Baltimore area. La Cuchara, our spectacular setting, is a charming, Basque inspired restaurant located in Clipper Mill. They source all of their ingredients from Maryland farms and markets, giving wonderful business to locals. It was a pleasure working with Candace Cage Design who took elements from the restaurants lattice design plates and incorporated them into the invitation suite. Marlayna and I are still in awe of those invites. Local Color Flowers brought so many vibrant florals to the tabletops and ceremony space. It's absolutely amazing to see a florist work, because they have such wonderful vision and it's almost magic to see them piece it together. We also got to include two perfectly crafted floral pressed guestbooks from UpDown Press and Bindery, which added a great pop to our reception scene. The loveliest part of...

A Stunning Elkridge Furnace Inn Wedding

Emily & Jonathan

Shawn and I have been eagerly awaiting Emily and Jonathan's wedding at Elkridge Furnace Inn. We first met with these two last year at a little bagel shop in Ellicott City. Over breakfast, we were able to get to know each other and get excited for the big day. I love the meetings where it feels like we are talking with old friends. It just makes us even more excited for the big day and for the sweet couple. Emily and Jonathan are two fantastic individuals. Emily is beautifully hilarious, and I found myself laughing the entire day thanks to her. The kindness that she exudes made me feel like I've known her for years, even though we had only met once before the wedding day. The way she complements Jonathan's easy-going and cool demeanor is amazing. It made me giddy to see the excitement on Jonathan's face on the wedding day. He is caring, thoughtful, and, like Emily, fun. When these two got together for their first look at the Renaissance Hotel in Baltimore, my heart was so happy. I was seriously tearing up watching Jonathan take his bride into his arms, and I am just so in love with these two. The greatest thing about Emily and Jonathan is that they are up for any adventure. They were up for doing their first look in a light drizzle, portraits in Federal Hill with umbrellas, and night photos in a damp garden. Nothing fazed these two, and...

A Breathtaking Wedding at Flora Corner Farm

Sara & Charlie

When Shawn and I met Sara and Charlie a year ago, we knew instantly that they were special. From the way they look at each other, to the way they speak to one another. They are sweet, loving, and, above all else, perfect for one another. Getting to know their personalities at their engagement session filled us with so much anticipation for their wedding day. Shawn and I had no doubt their wedding at Flora Corner Farm was going to be fantastic. What I did not know was  how many wonderful emotions would be present in their day. Arriving at their gorgeous venue, excitement was pulsing in the air. The only time that Sara's smile faded from her face was when she read the beautiful note that Charlie had written for her. I'm pretty sure that Sara didn't even get through the first line before tears began to fall. The most adorable part of this story is that, across the venue, Charlie was reading the note that Sara had written for him. He also only got a few words in before needing to pause to compose himself. Shawn and I were well aware that we were not leaving this wedding without shedding a few tears ourselves. Everything for this day was magnificent. From the bouquet to the music, Sara and Charlie were enveloped in so much life and love. The chic romantic ambiance that Flora Corner Farm has is unbelievable. The gorgeous ceremony site is framed with vintage chandeliers...

Katelyn & Zach

An Intimate Annapolis Court House Wedding

We have been so excited and ready for Katelyn and Zach's wedding at the Annapolis Court House. We worked with this couple before with family portraits a couple years ago, and have been looking forward to their wedding ever since. It was wonderful being able to see them again, and meet the rest of their family. Their wedding was small and intimate, with just the immediate family in attendance. That didn't make the day any less exciting for these two, though. Both of them were just as nervous as every other couple. Emma, their daughter, was especially adorable and seemed to be just as excited for them. She handled the responsibility of standing up next to them during the ceremony, and was sure to never stop grinning. You could tell how much she loves Katelyn and how happy she is for her dad. The sweet and concise ceremony packed in a lot of emotion, while providing lots of time for the celebration afterwards. Before they went off to Sorrento's with their family, though, we took the couple and Emma to the Maryland State House. They have such an aura of calm around them, which was the perfect style for the day. It almost felt like we were just spending a warm day in Annapolis with friends. Getting to share this experience was a wonderful change of pace from our normally hectic and exhausting weddings. This day was no exception to reminding me how much I love taking photos in Annapolis...

The First Look Explained

Tips & Tricks

Whenever the question of a first look comes up, we are almost always met with an excited bride and confused groom. It's no fault of the groom that he doesn't know what this wedding trend is. We generally give the bride the chance to explain it, if she is familiar. But it's still kind of difficult to find the right words to describe it. When we explain it, we want to be informative and still give all the sweetness that is involved. The benefits and trade offs are not always immediately obvious. It takes both people to decide if a first look is right for them. Having to find the right words to make a confident choice is a challenge. We want to give you the resources that allow you both to be at peace with your options. So we are excited to give you the information about a first look, and the tools to know if it should be a part of your wedding day. What is a first look? The easiest way to explain a first look is that it's a chance for the couple to be with each other before all of the craziness starts. It's an intimate moment that you two get the chance to share on a day that is all about your love. A first look is never rushed or forced. It's honestly the most exciting time during the wedding, besides the declaration of marriage. The process of this romantic event starts...

A Perfect Wedding at Riverside on the Potomac

Christine & Jon

Magical doesn't even begin to describe Christine and Jon's wedding day. From the perfect weather to the gorgeous scenery, it was like being in a dream. Their style was amplified by their stunning location at Riverside on the Potomac in Leesburg, Virginia. When Shawn and I pulled up we were immediately in awe. Since the venue was a bit away from the road, there are some spectacular views everywhere. Clear skies and perfect weather were ideal for the ceremony on the edge of a lovely pond. Wide open fields, a large rustic barn, and a mountain off in the distance spoiled us. The dress by Anjolique Bridal and flowers from Affordable Arrangements captured the grace of the venue. Even smaller features the location has like an antique car, flower bed, and horses next door gave us plenty of spots for pictures. Later in the evening, everyone was treated to vibrant colors that lit up the clouds in the sky. It was all definitely a sight to behold that left Shawn and me a little breathless at times. Christine and Jon are amazing, and not just for their skill in picking the gorgeous Riverside venue. As expected, both of them were nervous but excited. But that didn't keep them from having fun with their friends while getting ready. Their bridal party did their job by keeping the couple (and us) laughing while they prepared for the day. Their officiant, Randy Miller, led a very beautiful ceremony and knot tying. The vows...

The Importance of Saying No

Confidence with Compromising

The words yes and no are very powerful. Couples and vendors alike can get hung up on the negativity of the word no, which can make both sides feel insignificant during wedding planning. I've had plenty of situations where I know that I shouldn't be saying yes. Yet, since I didn't want to step on anyone's toes, I bit my tongue. Occasionally, my inability to voice my opinions caused a hiccup in my business. The biggest problem with this is never feeling in control of my success. I would do things for my business because it's what everyone else was doing, or because it's what was being demanded of me. It wasn't until this year that I took the reins and began exercising my right to say no. Shawn's and my main priority with couples is to have a friendship that is fun and enthusiastic. If there are certain goals or relationships that aren't being positively fostered, reflect on the situation and weigh the pros and cons. We don't want to tell people we aren't going to do something without reason. We have a thoughtful process that we follow in order to make sure our couples (current and potential) are aware that we are looking out for them. Saying no to things that add stress One of the biggest things that I think couples and vendors need to ask themselves is if certain requests will add too much stress. Weddings already carry a lot of pressure with...

The First Touch Explained

Tips & Tricks

When we meet with a couple, one of the questions we ask them is if they are doing a first look. Most of the time, our couples do go for the first look, which we enjoy. It's a great way to get intimate portraits and a sentimental memory. However, not all couple are fans of being that non-traditional. They will often mention how they don't want to see each other, but they still want to do something. That's when Shawn and I suggest what we like to call the "first touch". This option is amazing for the couples that want to have a moment together, but also want to save the big reveal for the aisle. Shawn and I totally understand this option because it's what we did. For those who don't know Shawn, his personality during stressful situations is incredibly calm. It's something I knew I needed when planning our big day. The only problem was that we both did not want to do a first look. So I scoured Pinterest and found a sweet alternative. It allowed us to share a beautiful moment, while still seeing each other for the first time right before our vows. On our chilly, rainy wedding day when everything was going crazy, all I wanted was Shawn. Our first touch was exactly what I needed in order to calm my brain (which was working overtime). I know I've talked about our experience a few times. It's important, though, because it made us...

The Key to Wedding Planning Perfection

Something Borrowed, Something True

Since I'm waist deep in my watching of the Olympics, I'm seeing the word "perfection" everywhere. It's an interesting idea that shows up a lot in sports, and also in wedding planning. There is an insurmountable amount of pressure on today's brides and grooms to have that perfect day. Your decor needs to be new and fresh, and you need to be over-accommodating for your guests. It can be incredibly difficult to balance. However, the greatest shift I've seen in our couples is that the perfect day to them means doing what makes them happy. Following happiness makes the planning process run so smoothly. At a certain point in our wedding planning, Shawn and I had to put aside what our guests would like and do what was best for ourselves. Naturally, we were still concerned with throwing a great party. But when we thought about what we enjoyed, the pressure from "perfect" vanished. We created our own idea of what was best for our day, and it made a huge difference. Seeing couples come to the same conclusion as us is fantastic. There is always the fear that, because of sites like Pinterest, the need to chase a flawless wedding is stronger than ever. Reading the positive advice fills me with so much joy. The key to wedding planning perfection is to throw out the idea of perfect. Focus on the fact that your happiness going into marriage will take you much further.   Marielle...

Beat the Heat

Tips for Photographers and Couples with Hot Summer Weddings

Now that it's August, it's time for summer days to get longer and hotter. I'm having a terrible time thinking how it could be even hotter than July. But it's definitely possible with how ridiculous the weather has been this year. This season has been undeniably on the warmer side for us. Last weekend, we had Samantha and Tim's wedding happen during the peak of a heat wave. Their wedding was a light bulb moment for Shawn and me on how we handle weddings that are absolute scorchers. The tips that we've been able to pick up over the years have made our ability to manage 100° days in a healthy way. As photographers who prefer to work with natural light, we are constantly running around outside trying to find the best places to shoot. We get sweaty - scratch that - grossly sweaty. It's easy for Shawn and me to forget to drink water, to have a quick snack, and to take a break. While the tips below are primarily for photographers, they can also be helpful to couples or bridal party members looking for smoother photo sessions. A little bit of planning and foresight can prevent a lot of problems down the burning asphalt road. Drink plenty of water Back when I was a kid, I always scoffed when my parents would tell me this. It wasn't until I started running track in high school that I realized: staying hydrated is no joke. Even the smallest...

Samantha & Tim

An Unforgettable Wedding at Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center

The day has come for Sam and Tim to exchange vows at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, and it is one Shawn and I will remember forever. Like their engagement session at the couple's home in June, the wedding was very intimate and personal. The Environmental Center was a bit of a drive out from the main road, but reaching the clearing with the main building, it was easy to see why they selected it as their special spot. It is a cozy building with a small pond right outside the wall-length windows. It is a gorgeous location, with plenty of tall trees to provide enough shade for anyone who was enjoying some of the summer air. Sam and Tim were incredibly ready for this day. They both had an electrified buzz about them, and even their fur-baby Lincoln (who was also one of the groomsmen), was pacing around the venue with alacrity. When it finally came time for the ceremony, and Tim saw his bride walking down the aisle, all the nerves and anticipation were able to be released and he let out one of the biggest smiles I've seen. Neither one of them dropped their smile for a minute, except for the happy tears during very romantic vow exchanges. Even their personal friend and officiant, Shar, had a tough time holding back the emotions. To finish up the ceremony and seal the kiss, all of their groomsmen stood up holding instruments, and played while the entire wedding party...

Serenity Blue & Cobalt Styled Shoot

Charm City Wed Feature!

I know that everyone is probably well aware by now that, back in March, Marlayna and I collaborated with a ton of amazing vendors on a styled shoot. I've been chronicling that journey in a few different blogs, and I absolutely love being able to share all that we learned. I think the most awesome thing about that day was that we did not just get one shoot out of it, but two, thanks to the generosity and hard working vendors that participated in the shoot. Due to their collective effort, our second shoot was featured on a local wedding inspiration blog called Charm City Wed on Monday! Check out the Charm City Wed feature here! We went into March 15th thinking that we were going to have one shoot and that was going to be it, but as the day evolved we realized how awesome our vendor team truly was. Everything during the day could be split into two different sessions from the stunning earrings by Rachel Mulherin, to the delectable food by Copper Kitchen. Items could be combined and separated in order to create two new worlds within a single day. We used the invitations that Pretty Peacock Paperie artfully crafted within the second shoot to add a different look to the rings from St. Johns Jewelers. Nature of Design, the fantastic florist, created two completely different fairytale-esque tablescapes that were so beautiful and unique. Bella Bridesmaids let us borrow six dresses that made each model take on...

Guys, It's Your Day, Too

from Shawn

When it comes to wedding planning, it's no secret that most of it is geared towards the bride. The broad generalization (whether it's true or not) is that the female is the Creative, who has been planning the wedding since she was little, and is the most capable person. Everything involved with the wedding is making these childhood dreams come true, and the guy is just a lucky participant in this occasion. In fact, it seems to be a rule of the universe that most conversations about wedding planning include a passive comment like "It's her day, after all!" It might be the gentleman passing the responsibility of choice to his future wife, or it might be used by an in-law or friend to override an unpopular decision, but Britney and I cringe whenever we hear this phrase. It gets to be rather demoralizing for a male and helps feed this notion of "her day." Just in the process of our own wedding, I've had these circumstances occur: Filling out a form for a wedding expo which asked explicitly for "Bride's Name" but not mine. Getting a call from a vendor asking to speak to Britney even though I gave my name and number on the contact list. Having my name spelled completely wrong on a form with a potential vendor (they spelled Britney's name correctly). Being generally ignored in conversation while vendors make direct eye contact with Britney. Britney and I worked hard...

Emily & Cal

A Classic Wedding at Overhills Mansion

I love walking into a bride's getting ready area and feeling the buzz of pure excitement. The environment is full of smiles and laughter, and the best part is that the bride is at ease instead of nervous. Not that there is anything wrong with a nervous bride, but nerves can sometimes lead to stress, and that is the last thing that needs at her wedding. Having already spent some time with Emily and Cal at their engagement session, I knew that their wedding was going to be unbelievably amazing. These two were so ready to be married, and the Overhills Mansion in Catonsville was the perfect setting. My most favorite moment was during their first look when Cal got to see Emily in her gown. He slowly turned, and as his eyes caught glimpses of her, he started moving back in order to take in all of her beauty. It was so romantic and sweet, especially when he had to take a few moments to catch his breath since Emily put him in such a shocked state. It easily made it on my list of the top 5 best reactions, haha! Watching these two and all of their family and friends celebrate almost ten years of their love was something that Shawn and I will never forget. At one point during the speeches, two of Cal's groomsmen delivered a speech together that I don't think left a dry eye in the room. They were so genuinely happy that Cal...

Jessica & Adam

A Breathtaking Waterfront Wedding

"I knew she was the one the first time I heard her say 'I love you'.  Hearing those words come from her in a way I had never heard them said before struck me in such a profound way.  I had never heard such genuine love spoken before Jessica nor had I seen it.  The way she looked at me I knew right away I had finally found the love of my life." I'm a total crier when it comes to weddings, and during every part of Jessica and Adam's day I found myself tearing up. It didn't matter if it was the bridesmaids watching Jessica get final touches on her makeup or the last dance where Adam and Jessica were enveloped in each other's arms, it all created such a beautiful feeling. My favorite part of the day was getting to watch Adam's face light up as he saw Jessica come through the doors and down the aisle. His nerves had been on overdrive the whole day. I seriously thought for a second that he may pass out in anticipation for the ceremony to begin. It wasn't until Adam saw Jessica come around the corner that relief washed over him and a smile spread across his face. As Jessica walked toward Adam she paused halfway down the aisle so that Adam could meet her and they could take the final steps to the arbor together. Honestly, at that point in the ceremony (which...

Alyssa & Matthew

A Magical Wedding at Billingsley House

I had been ready for Alyssa and Matt's wedding since we shot their engagement session last year. Not only are they incredibly sweet and kind to others, but they have such an amazing connection with each other. It was easy to tell they were dear friends right from the very start. When Shawn and I pulled up to the Billingsley House in Upper Marlboro (the same location as Alexandra and Sean's wedding last November), my mind was already going nuts with excitement. This venue is one of a kind, with beautiful views of the Patuxent and an excellent tented area, which gives any reception a very fancy but open feeling. Driving up the tree lined drive-way, we could see the perfect pops of coral and mint, and we could also see the most interesting tree centerpieces on the colorful rectangular tables. The tree branches and paper leaves added a dimension to the reception area that wouldn't have been achievable with just vases and flowers. Immediately upon walking into the space, I was filled with a sense of overwhelming happiness thanks to all of the details that fit so perfectly together. All of Alyssa and Matt's unique decor was from the mind of their wedding coordinator, Christina. She put in so much time into every detail, and I was amazed at how she captured Alyssa and Matt's personalities in the decorations. Christina's attention and care to the small things filled the reception and ceremony space with so much magic. My favorite...

Samantha & John

A Rustic Wedding at Shoemaker Homestead

I think I'm still in shock from Sam and John's beautiful wedding at Shoemaker Homestead. I just cannot get over how the weather forecast predicted 100% chance of thunderstorm for the time the ceremony was to start. I know the Weather Channel can very often be wrong, but the color of the sky in the morning was matching what a storm would look like, so I was a bit worried. However, when Shawn and I arrived and walked in to greet Sam, she was so positive and happy. The weather seriously couldn't put a damper on the fact that she was marrying her best friend. Not only was she positive, but Sam also was prepared. She read up on advice that I shared about having a rain plan and bought some super cute umbrellas from Ikea. I'm convinced that when you think happy thoughts (and spend a bunch of money on rain gear) the weather will completely change it's mind and be gorgeous. That's exactly what happened for Sam and John and I couldn't have been more ecstatic that they didn't need to change any aspect of their wedding plan. Not only was the weather on point, but the emotions within this day were on a whole different level. No one could keep a dry eye throughout the day. Tears were shed while Sam was getting ready, since her dress was the same dress that her mother wore almost 30 years ago. And there was no shortage of feelings from...

Our Geode & Watercolor Styled Shoot

We've Been Featured!

Well, it's finally here! The Smitten Magazine issue featuring the Spring styled shoot by Marlayna and me is now live! We are so honored to have our names in such a beautiful collection of styles, recipes and photographs. It truly feels like a dream to have our work recognized, especially after the difficult process of getting it submitted. I still remember when we got the email from the editor of Smitten telling us that she loved the shoot and wanted to put it in Issue 15 of the magazine. Cue the tears and the giddy bouncing up and down in our chairs. Once we settled down we realized that we had to wait an entire month and a half until June for the magazine to come out, which seriously felt like an eternity. I don't know how we made it through, but here we are! Check out the Fresh Issue here! The most rewarding feeling was going to Smitten's site and seeing that beautiful cover image, and then flipping through the first few pages and seeing our faces (that sounds vain, but it was really friggin' cool). Seeing our images alongside so many other talented photographers and beautiful couples made all of the stress and worry completely worth it. This feature is not just for us, but for all of the amazing people that helped make our Pinterest inspiration board come to life. The florals from Nature of Design were beyond anything that we could have imagined. Janet and...

Making Tough Calls When it Comes to Guests

Something Borrowed, Something True

Guests liven up a wedding like no other. From emotions during the ceremony to wobble skills during the reception, guests add an extra layer of fun to any day. However, before the wedding, it can be a little daunting coordinating for all the attendees. There's addresses to gather, families to figure out, and seating charts to map to maximize everyone's enjoyment. I know from my own experiences that it can be exhausting, but the thing that worked for Shawn and me when taking them all on: set a cap on guests and hold strong to that number. For our wedding, Shawn and I decided that we would do a couple of things in order to keep our list manageable. Our first decision was to not invite children except for the two in the bridal party (my niece and nephew). The second thing we decided early on was to keep our family invites to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and first cousins. Shawn has a huge family, and while we didn't want to exclude anyone, we had to think of costs and what wedding size we could manage. The last thing we did was to put the number of seats that were being held in their honor on our guests RSVP cards. We kept this to just two seats for each of our guests, and they were super respectful of our request. I've heard horror stories of people crossing out these numbers and writing in their own, but luckily, our...

3 Reasons Why You Should Not Direct Message Vendors on Social Media

Tips & Tricks

Social media is a resource difficult to live without in today's society. Of course, there are those strong individuals who can go more than a day without checking their accounts or uploading selfies, but they are in the minority of people. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and even Tumblr, are all platforms for people to showcase their personalities and find people that they want to know more about. In most cases, these vessels are also used by professionals to display their talents and attract potential clients. One really awesome feature that most sites boast is the ability to direct message (DM). It's an amazing resource that allows you to stay connected with friends and keep up with the people you may have lost touch with. It's an important feature in the world of social media, but a lot of times, we don't realize the short-comings that can also surface from it. Today, I want to spend a little bit of time talking about the problems with DMing your potential wedding vendors instead of reaching out via email or their website. If this can save one message from getting lost and bring you closer to the vendor of your dreams, then it has done the job :).   The 3 Reasons Why You Should Not Direct Message Your Wedding Vendors: 1. The Message Request Folder The biggest problem I see with DMing is when you message someone's personal account, your inquiry will most likely end up in an alternate area that...

8 Reasons Why You Should Consider Doing a Bridal Session

Tips and Tricks

Weddings today are a lot different from what they were 30 years ago. There is less of a hold on tradition and more focus on relaxed fun. Certainly, I'm not saying that people didn't have fun at their weddings in a pre-Pinterest time, but we cannot deny that there has been a shift in what couples are doing for during and before their nuptials. There are engagement sessions, first looks and styled elopements. Things that my parents never thought of doing are now staples in the wedding planning process. Bridal sessions are a major event that I feel is on the rise in popularity. A few years ago, these shoots mainly involved just the bride, but I'm seeing more and more couples do these together, and it's pretty awesome. For those who aren't familiar, if an engagement shoot and a first look decided to have a child, a bridal session would be the final product. They are a lot like an engagement shoot in choosing a location that isn't your wedding venue, but the bride gets to be in her gown and the groom is in his suit. Usually these sessions are done right around when your hair and make-up trial happens, since you can take advantage of being all fancied up with the cosmetic style you'll have on the big day. Maximize Your Time with Your Photographers

from Shawn

Shawn here! Today's blog post is an advice post for people preparing for their wedding, but it also applies to any Maids of Honor, Best Men, or parents who want to help out their friends and family. We have seen a lot of different weddings as photographers, and each one has it's own unique blend of personalities and attitudes. Some of our couples have are very diligent with a schedule and planning, others like to play the day by ear. Families can be extremely helpful and attentive to the bride and groom or they can be more excited about seeing family that live across the country. But when it comes to capturing your day, we want to make sure you get the best quality possible. There are some simple steps you can make before you get swept up in the day that will help us immensely into packing as much as we can into our limited time. Before the Wedding It seems that couples are usually so excited about getting married, they unfortunately overlook the hours before they even prepare to say "I do." It's important to remember that it's your "Big Day" and not just your "Big Few Hours." The time prior is just as critical to the success and enjoyment of your wedding, and it's very easy to underestimate how much time and energy is put into the first few hours of your time with us. Leave Time for the Details One of...

Jessica & Frank

A Gorgeous Waterfront Wedding at The Anchor Inn

I am just in love with Jess and Frank's wedding day at The Anchor Inn in Pasadena, Maryland on Saturday. This adorable couple had a sweet and emotional ceremony where their pup, Mufasa, acted as ring bearer. I don't know about anyone else, but it makes me immediately giddy when I see a tie on a dog. Jess and Frank went the bold and vibrant route when choosing their wedding decor with colors like pink, yellow and orange. It completely fit the bright and airy reception space in an amazing way. The mason jar centerpieces (which I'm not sure if they were DIY) were so cool looking, and really made each table feel warm and inviting. Throughout the evening, Shawn and I must have told each other how fantastic Jess and Frank's wedding colors were about 10 times. When it came time for the reception, Shawn and I were assured by Frank's mom that the dance floor would be full and wild. She was not exaggerating. The floor felt packed the entire evening, and it seemed like all of their guests put in 100% dancing effort for every song. During the evening, we pulled Frank and Jess outside for some night portraits. When the Cha-Cha slide came on, the entire venue was shaking because of everyone stomping. We seriously thought the floor might crack in half in the most awesome way, haha! Congrats to Jess and Frank, and thank you both for the beautiful and incredibly fun wedding!  ...

I'm Happy it Rained on My Wedding Day

Tips and Tricks

Rain on your wedding is something that you don't even want to think about for fear that you may be jinxing the day. I totally get it, because when we were planning ours, we avoided any and all mention of rain. So what did I do when I checked the 10-day weather report and saw the little stormy cloud graphic? Well, first I cried, and then I got to planning. Besides marrying each other (which is number one on the priority list, no matter what), photos were important to us. We wanted to take advantage of the grounds at our amazing venue, so we came up with a photo rain plan. We purchased a clear umbrella to use, and started researching rainy wedding photos. Shawn's parents even took a trip to Ikea and got us tons of towels, bridal party umbrellas, and a blanket that I could put the train of my dress on so that it didn't get muddy. We were ready, and the fact that we were so prepared made all of the emotions that that tiny, evil rain cloud held completely disappear. When a couple ask me "what if it rains?" I let them know that rain just means we have to be a little more creative with their portraits. As a photographer, I'm glad to be challenged and to be in situations that aren't perfect . It's being able to produce beautiful images in a situation that isn't ideal that makes me feel proud of...

Not Letting the Details Consume You

Something Borrowed, Something True

When you think of a wedding planning check list, what are some of the first things on your list? On my list there are: floral inspiration, venues, hair and make-up wizardry, dress designs, a whole ton of other things that - when put together - create a magical day for two very special people. When Shawn and I were organizing our day, every time I felt like all the important things were covered, someone would mention lighting, or our vows, or the guestbook and I immediately would realize that I had no idea. It wasn't until I started looking at resources like WeddingWire and utilizing Google Sheets for our guest list that details started fitting into place, and the nightmares of having a wedding missing something important went from once a week to once a month :P. I know Shawn and I weren't the only ones that have dealt with a check list that is more list than checked, but in the thick of it can be hard to stay positive and not feel overwhelmed. Seeing the way that some of our couples dealt with the anxiety of their details really showed me that there are some great ways to conquer the bridal fears. From Pinterest to dealing with late RSVPs, these couples kept themselves in fantastic order and can truly help others throughout the entire process.   Jen & Brock  "Definitely follow the local wedding blogs for inspiration, especially early on. We discovered...

Sarah & Kevin

A Beautiful Ballroom Wedding at La Fontaine Bleue

Sarah and Kevin were married at the fabulous La Fontaine Bleue on one of the most perfect Spring days. Seriously, the sun was shining and the temperature was just right for a bride in a Cinderella gown, haha. Their wedding was intimate, romantic, and full of so much love. Kevin's reaction when he saw his beautiful bride coming down the aisle was so full of excitement that I thought he was going to burst. Probably one of the things I adore the most on a wedding day is when a couple softly sings their first dance song to each other. It's such a simple thing, twirling around on the dance floor and being so overcome with the song's feelings that you have to whisper certain parts of it in your beloved's ear. The moment Sarah and Kevin's song came on, Forever Ain't Enough by J Holiday, Kevin immediately took Sarah into his arms and started singing to her while dancing. Witnessing this filled me with so much giddy happiness, and it easily became my most favorite part of the day <3. Shawn and I are so happy for these two. I cannot say enough how wonderful and amazing they both are. We know that their marriage is going to be beautiful!   _____________________________________________________________________________   All of the amazing vendors that made this day the best day ever! Exciting News About Our Styled Shoot

Smitten Feature

So I know I've been talking quite a lot recently about the styled shoot that Marlayna and I did, but that's because I'm really proud of everyone involved and what we were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. I feel like most planned shoots don't happen within a month and a half (but I could be wrong, haha). We worked tremendously hard, and I fully intend on covering every topic that there is through this blog. I've already started a little bit of the conversation in my blog last week, which made me excited to share every happy, joyous, and heartbreaking moment that we had on this journey. One of the most amazing things happened yesterday: our first shoot - our little photo child - was accepted by Smitten Magazine. As embarrassing as it is to admit, Marlayna and I both cried when we got the email from Audrey, the editor-in-chief. Our entire goal for this shoot was showcasing everyone who dedicated time and their talent to it. After getting just a couple of rejections, we were feeling like failures in the publishing world. But then Smitten happened and our energy, emotions. and belief in love was completely restored! Can I just cuddle this exciting feeling for a little bit :P? Again, I'll cover ever single topic in the series on styled shoots, but just know that this acceptance did not come easy, and the joy of having our work recognized is really freakin' awesome. &...

The Beginning Steps to Organizing a Styled Shoot

For the Creative

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a little bit about the styled shoot that my friend, Marlayna, and I put together. The time leading up to the shoot was exciting, frustrating, and - at times - overwhelming. But we kept pushing forward, because we knew at the end something great was waiting for us. We truly weren't expecting all of the hard-work and beauty that everyone contributed to this day. Even though our final images have to stay under-wraps for now, I wanted to start a conversation about the behind the scenes of the shoot. As I said earlier, there was a lot that Marlayna and I put into this, and I feel like there is so much that we can share regarding the process of planning and executing. I am totally aware that there is just too much information for one blog, so I'll be organizing my posts into the different parts of a styled shoot. Organization is the key to staying sane. If you are planning a styled shoot either on your own or with a fellow creative, please utilize a service like Google Drive. I cannot tell you enough how huge this was in keeping us on track and professional. The ability to have a cloud system that can share spreadsheets and documents is a total lifesaver. For our shoot, we started by creating a shared folder. Anything that we needed from that point was readily available in the form of a spreadsheet...

Why I Have a Wedding Day Questionnaire

Getting to Know You

One the emails that I look forward to sending to our couples is their wedding day questionnaire. The main reason we send this out is because it allows Shawn and I to get to know the couple on a deeper level, and I love seeing what they type out. The form itself is split into different categories that, when completed, paints us a perfect picture of the wedding day. Of course, there are basic logistical questions that cover locations, honeymoon length, the main contact's phone number, etc. But then there are sections that are dedicated to the bridal party, family, and vendors. It's extremely in-depth (and a lot to fill-in), but when Shawn and I originally planned out the sections, we tried hard to include some fun questions so that it isn't overwhelming for anyone. I also have a whole section dedicated to items "For the Blog" that asks the couple questions about their relationship and wedding. This part has to be my favorite, because the answers vary so much, but are always incredibly sweet. Usually the first question I check when I get a finished questionnaire is: "When did you know he/she was the one for you". That one question makes me tear up pretty much 100% of the time, because I feel like I'm getting a glimpse into the relationship that isn't commonly heard from. The biggest thing that I encourage with my questionnaire is to have fun with it. Shawn and I want to get...

Our First Styled Shoot

Teaser

Next to my wedding day and Pony's arrival, yesterday was literally the best day of my life. About a month and a half ago, me and photo-friend, Marlayna, decided to do a styled shoot together. The goal of a styled shoot is to provide a central spotlight on a lot of fantastic businesses by creating a mock event, which gives everyone excellent product photos and some good exposure after submission to some fantastic blogs. It was our first time planning our own shoot of this caliber, and we had little idea of where to start. So we Googled the heck out of previous styled shoots conducted by other photographers, and came up with an awesome game plan.  First, we needed a theme that is unique and interesting so our photo blog submissions would stand out. I think that was probably the easiest part of the whole process, because we pretty much just looked at our collective Pinterest dream boards and discovered we both love geometric shapes, geodes, and watercolors. Boom, theme was done. We set up our checklist and magical spreadsheet of what we needed and started reaching out to people. The hard work came in finding our venue, not spending our life savings in Home Goods, and figuring out the logistics for moving super heavy (and gorgeous!) furniture. The end result, though? Fan-freaking-tastic! It was better than any of our Pinterest boards, and the saying "go big or go home" has never been truer than our...

Meeting with Your Photographer

Conversations Beyond Email

This past weekend, Shawn and I had two client meetings. These chat sessions are always really exciting to me because it's the chance to get to know someone and have comfortable conversations with them. After the meetings, I started to think of how important it is to me that Shawn and I get to have this time with our potential couples. I know I'm not the only one that is at least a little different in face-to-face conversations versus email. I am well aware that while my emails are thought out with conservative exclamation point placement and carefully typed words, real life me is just a ball of excitement that makes a lot of high pitched sounds when proposal stories are shared. It's a high priority to make time to get to know who you will be capturing your love on your wedding day. I know when meeting your photographer, there are time commitments to be considered and other places to be. But the best part about living in today's world is that we have the capability to meet over the Internet with services like Skype and Google Hangouts. For one of the meetings this weekend, Shawn and I got to virtually meet with the bride who was out of the country for school. Sure, we had to worry about the occasional lag, but the meaning and excitement behind the call was still there. Shawn and I still got to see the personality of this particular bride and she...

Remember the Big Picture

Something Borrowed, Something True

Weddings are almost always viewed as the beginning of a beautiful life with your partner. It's exciting and special, and most of the time our imaginations build a spectacular day full of sparkle. But our imagination rarely takes into account the stress leading up to the day or the cost of that dream wedding. Both stress and money together can lead to a lot of heartbreak throughout the planning process if you aren't well equipped. Tonight's blog is about strategies to remaining sane when you are in the thick of planning. A few of our brides touched on this topic, and I found it fascinating how each couple dealt with things differently. From organizing finances to just remaining calm, the advice in this installment is very unique to the couple that wrote it. I must say, though, one of the common factors across the board is that at the end of the day you are marrying your perfect person. Even if the cake gets dented, or there is an accident which backs up traffic and delays your wedding, you still get to say "I do" and start your new beginning.   April & Corey "Really consider your dream wedding plans. It's so easy to feel pressured to find things that fit your theme, but really think about it because halfway through the planning process that probably won't matter to you anymore. Really all that matters is marrying the person you love."  ...

Preparing Your Special Wedding Details

Tips & Tricks

When you think of wedding of traditional wedding day photos, what images come to mind? For most people, they imagine portraits of the bride and groom in a beautiful setting, wrapped up in each others arms, or the groom's reaction when he sees his bride walking down the aisle. These huge moments that deliver the feelings of the day are definitely ones that I adore, but what about all the items and features that shape the look and theme of the wedding? When a bride wears the same necklace that her mom wore to her own wedding, it represents a really great bond between two women. While the object may be small, the meaning and sentimental value is huge, and really help make a wedding special and unique for the couple. It's surprising how the smallest bits of the planning process can help deliver the biggest impact. The first thing that Shawn and I do when we arrive at a wedding is gather all of the little mementos and accessories for detail photos. Those pieces need to have their moment to shine, because without them, the day would be missing that amazing sparkle. To all my couples, I recommend organizing your personal detail items into one place by creating "getting ready bags". Taking all the important and unique items that need to be photographed and placing them together in a bag means that when the photographer arrives, they can grab the bag and get started with the shots. It...

Venues I Hope to Photograph

Manifesting Dreams

As Shawn pointed out in his post on Monday, when he arrived back home from Arizona, he shared with me an itsy bitsy cold. I am a very dramatic sick person, so I was pretty much out of commission for a day or two. While sprawled out on the couch and binge watching Modern Family, I started to think about all the venues I've had the opportunity to shoot and all of the ones I have only been dreaming to photograph at. I've heard previously that when you want to make something happen, you should put it out in the world because it may manifest itself into reality. After awhile I started to really believe in that and started to be a little more genuine to myself. I was truly surprised in the effect that it had on my life and the positivity that it brought. So, naturally, I have started trying to work the magic into Britney Clause Photography. When Shawn joined me in 2015, he started to experience these beautiful places and adventures with me. After he came aboard, I really started to expand my view on what, where, and who I wanted to photograph. The "where" got me especially excited because I know there are an extraordinary amount of amazing venues in Maryland alone. So when I opened up my mind to all of the possibilities - oh man - that made me start to imagine big things for the future. I have a ton...

Allowing Outside Opinions In

Something Borrowed, Something True

Last time in my bride-to-bride advice series, I shared some of the thoughts that my couples had about timing and how important it is. For this installment, it's all about those outside sources and what they may have to say about your wedding. I know it's a little bit of a touchy subject, because with wedding planning everyone has their own ideas and a lot of the time there is unsolicited advice offered that isn't always productive. Also, through the wedding process, you may find that some people aren't exactly in your corner on some decisions as you would expect them to be. Wedding planning is definitely a trying time in friendships and family relationships. But a bright spot is how it brings you and your significant other as a couple much closer together, and makes you really start to see the family that you are building. Shawn and I went through a very difficult situation in our own planning regarding a family member, and the situation was completely heartbreaking and really altered relationships. We faced backlash from my family over a difficult decision we had to make, but it was necessary. The thing that mattered was that we learned that we always have each other. Through thick and thin we can look at one another and know that we are a unit, and when either of us need even just a simple hug: it's there. The most important takeaway from this installment in the series is that you...

Timing is Everything

Something Borrowed, Something True

For the first of many installments in the bride-to-bride wedding advice series, I'm going to the most obvious of planning tips: time management. From the questionnaires I send out, timing is the most referenced topic. The thing that surprised me the most in the responses, though, is that timing means different things to a lot of people. It isn't always about giving yourself more months to plan (certainly that comes up) but there are so many other factors to keep in mind during the process. I loved reading all of the responses and I found that getting this type of insight from real couples -- no matter how big or small the advice -- was wonderful. Before I share what these fantastic couples have said, I first want to share from my own personal vault of advice. For Shawn and me, we planned a Friday wedding due to our dream venue being completely booked up two years in advance. The idea of the wedding being on a Friday stressed me out so much. I wanted to be able to have all of our family and friends there and I was afraid that no one would be able to get off of work. I even had an awful nightmare where I showed up to the venue and no one was there, and even Shawn couldn't get off work for his own wedding in this terrible dream world. Pathetic, but such a deep and real fear I had. My...

Should You Do a First Look?

Things to Consider

At this point, more than a few of the wedding planning sites you are on may be telling you to do a first look. They give a run-down of what it is and of all of the good that comes from doing one. Some of those sites may even say that your photographer will tell you to do one. Seriously, though, who am I to say "you must have a first look"? I would be a complete hypocrite if I demanded that; Shawn and I didn't do a first look, and even if we had the chance to go back and have one, we wouldn't. One of the things we both wanted from our day was for the first moment we see each other to be when I was walking down the aisle to him. We instead did an alternative to a first look where we held hands and said a prayer while separated by a door frame. I'm so glad that we did it this way because it was a moment I would never take back for anything. It was special and real and -- yes -- there were tears <3. We knew in our case a first look wouldn't work. Shawn and I talked about it, we made our photographer aware of our alternate idea, and we planned our timeline accordingly. I had where we would be during that last hour of light for sunset all mapped out. I think the most important thing, if...

Something Borrowed, Something True

A New Wedding Advice Series

As part of the process for getting to know our couples, I give all of our brides and grooms a questionnaire to fill out at their leisure in the weeks leading up to their big day. It has all of those technical questions about addresses and times, but the questions get a little deeper and more personal, too. One of my favorite things to read from the questionnaire are the tips that my couples give others who are in the beginning stages of wedding planning. Some of the tips are incredibly practical, like "make a budget and take one thing at a time." But some of the couples took the question to heart and provided a very thought provoking response, which made me start thinking about creating a series where I can share some of this amazing advice. My plan for this series is to focus on all of the great suggestions that my brides offer to help other real brides. Shawn and I have worked with all of these couples, and their heart really shows through in their words. My goal is to give you, my readers, some very useful information if you are -- or someone you know is -- in the thrilling journey of wedding planning! I'm so excited about kicking off this new series on my blog. I hope that it is informative and inspires people to evaluate their own planning process to maximize the awesomeness of their day. I plan on releasing the...

Happy New Year!

Reflection and Moving Forward

With the switching over of years comes making new optimistic promises, because a new number means a new start. I'm usually in that group of people, creating more things to do and vows to keep. Except for this year; this year, I am not making any new starts. My main focus is going to be expansion on what Shawn and I are already doing. I fell in love with all that 2015 has brought us and I don't want that to "end." Sure, we didn't buy a house, or check off a million things on our list of "things to do as an adult," but we were together. We got to fully start on this journey of being business partners and accomplishing so many great things. For Shawn, he got to have a few of his papers for his Ph.D. accepted into some huge conference. We also adopted our first dog together named Pony. He has brought nothing but joy and millions of laughs to our lives. I got to slow down a little bit and enjoy more time with my mom, drinking tootsie roll hot cocoa and crying over Hallmark movies. Together with Shawn's family we have set up family game nights that I really love, because I love getting to bond with my new family. Those family nights are very, very special to me. I also got to attend my first conference this year, which lit a crazy fire under me to...

My Favorite Wedding Photos of 2015

Year in Review

Every photo of Shawn and I is important, but the photos that we cherish and love the most are our wedding photos. We look back on our day and see the family that was present along with the memories that were created. Our love for each other and for the day itself shines in every single image. They are a wonderful representation of who we are and why our marriage is special. Those feelings we have for our photos are what motivates us to be our best possible selves for all of our couples. This past year we were able to photograph 17 amazing couples coming together in marriage. Each wedding was unique to the style of the couple, and every single marriage announcement, I teared up. Shawn and I got to do our first out-of-state wedding in Massachusetts, and because that was such a fabulous experience, we now hope to get more out-of-state nuptials! The best part about this year is that from these weddings, we came out with new friends that we are so excited for and are cheering for every single day. Gathering the images for this post was something that I wish I could do all of the time. Seeing these days unfold again was beautiful. Shawn and I are incredibly grateful for every opportunity that we have been given. We have really grown as partners and photographers so much over 2015. It was no surprise to me that I started tearing up at...

My Favorite Engagement Photos of 2015

Year in Review

I am so shocked that the end of the year is already here! Today's blog has been an absolute breeze to write and a dream to pick images for. I've had in mind some of the images that I would use for today's post for quite awhile, but actually going through them brought back so many happy memories of the great people Shawn and I have gotten to meet. Over the past year, I have felt so much growth in engagements sessions; from getting couples to feel comfortable, to putting on the final edits. It's truly been a wonderful year. We have had our share of challenges, but, through facing them head-on, we have been able to completely obliterate any problems (hulk style :P). 2015 was also Shawn's first full year of shooting along side me. I can't speak for him, but I can say it has been the most amazing thing. I love working with my husband, we can pretty much read each other's minds and he helps me calm down in times of high stress. He is my rock and I cannot thank him enough for all the hard-work and dedication he has shown to Britney Clause Photography. There are not enough jellybeans in the world for me to pay him back with <3. Going forward into 2016, I hope to take my engagement sessions to the next level. Shawn and I are constantly learning in order to give every couple we have the best possible...

Lindsay & Stephanie

A Romantic Willowdale Estate Wedding

Hold on to your seats people, this post is going to be a long one. Lindsay and Stephanie were married on a gorgeous November day in Topsfield, Massachusetts at the breathtaking Willowdale Estate. Fall was still in effect in the Northeast with colorful leaves still filling the trees. The pops of royal blue and granny smith apple green showed up in their gorgeous flowers and fun Converse Chuck Taylor's. I could talk all day about the wonderful moments the wedding day contained, but the most impactful was when the officiant, Priscilla Gearney, pronounced Lindsay and Stephanie as wife and wife. The room exploded with cheers and applause - it was spectacular. I know I had a difficult time working through the happy tears that were clouding my vision, haha! "My fiancee & I are looking for a photographer to do our engagement photos as well as our wedding photos. Too bad we live in Massachusetts :(. Thank you again for your beautiful captured moments in time <3" This was from Lindsay in 2011, which was a year when this Britney Clause Photography thing was just a pipe dream. I had no style, no direction, my watermark was a layered paint brush in Photoshop. It wasn't pretty and if you go time warp in the blog there may be some of that left over. Yikes! However, through all of that "figuring stuff out" phase, these two women believed in me when I didn't even believe...

Ali & Matt

Romantic and Chic Country Club Wedding

When Shawn and I first met with Ali and Matt for their summer engagement session, we had a feeling that their wedding was going to be absolutely fabulous. Little did we know that not only was the day going to be beautiful, but that it was going to be filled with so much warmth and love from everyone involved. Ali and Matt were married on a gorgeous fall day at the St. Martin's in-the-Field Episcopal Church, a stunning location in Severna Park that was surrounded by orange and yellow leaf trees. Their family and friends all cheered when they shared their first kiss and gave high fives to the newlyweds as they recessed. The reception at Chartwell Country Club was glowing with flickering candles that created such a beautiful atmosphere. One of the most touching moments during the entire night was Matt's brother's speech; just thinking back to has me tearing up. We all take so much for granted, but not these families. They cherish their time with one another, and it absolutely shows with the amount of care that they have for one another. Shawn and I are so happy that we got to photograph this special day for these two incredible people. Ali and Matt are just amazing and I look forward to seeing where life takes them!   ______________________________________________________________________________ A little Blue Steel to finish off the portraits :P All of the amazing vendors that made this day the best day ever! Jaclyn & Josh

A Nautical Wedding at Celebrations at the Bay

If rain on the wedding day is lucky, than a hurricane on your wedding day must give you luck for this lifetime and the next! Rain and wind aside, this beautiful fall wedding took place at Celebrations at the Bay in Pasadena, Maryland. The decor of the wedding was -- fittingly -- nautical with the main color being navy blue and pops of orange showing up in the flowers, centerpieces, and Josh's ring. The storm brewing outside, in a weird way, added an extra layer of excitement to this bayside wedding. Shawn and I had the best time watching everything come together perfectly for these two. They were surrounded by so many great people, and their bridal party was incredibly fun and kept the couples' minds off the weather. The affectionate term for the day became #StillJoaquinDownTheAisle, haha! I loved capturing their day and I'm still blown away by how gorgeous Jaclyn's dress looked, how touching her dance with her dad was, and how much fun Josh had learning the Whip and Nae Nae.   ______________________________________________________________________________ All of the amazing vendors that made this day the best day ever! Alexandra & Sean

An Amazing Wedding at Billingsley House

Aly and Sean are probably two of the most laid back and kind people I have had the pleasure of meeting. They made Shawn and me feel like their close friends, and we were both honored to have captured their wedding day. They have such a wonderful love for each other and getting to witness the smiles and looks they share is something that makes me totally giddy. I loved every piece of their day. From the location of the Billingsley House that overlooked the Patuxent River to the lawn games that Aly and Sean thoughtfully put out for their guests to have even more fun. Just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, Aly pulled me aside and asked me to photograph her giving Sean his wedding gift. The gift was a shotgun which had come from Aly's grandfather, and was engraved with her grandparents wedding year (1961) and with Aly and Sean's underneath. It was an incredible heirloom gift affectionately named "the wedding gun" :P. I couldn't help but be inspired by the loving thoughtfulness that these two possess and all that they do for one another. The life that these two continue to build is going to be such an amazing one. I wish them nothing but the best!   ______________________________________________________________________________ (They had a second cake with Sean's cake topper :P) All of the amazing vendors that made this day the best day ever! Hannah & Terry, Emory Grove

A Wedding Full of Heart

Everyone has heard that it's good luck to have rain on your wedding day; with that in mind, Hannah and Terry will have the luckiest marriage ever. The venue for Hannah and Terry's wedding is a gorgeous historic hotel called Emory Grove. It is surrounded by lush green trees and colorful little cabins. Because their engagement session had taken place at Emory Grove, I already had an idea of the beauty surrounding the area. When Shawn and I first arrived, it didn't look like the rain was going to let up, but as soon as Hannah and Terry said "I do" their luck kicked in and the down-pour ceased. Needless to say, I was ecstatic that we were able to explore without having to bother with umbrellas. Not only did Hannah and Terry choose a breathtaking location, but they found the most uniquely fun vendors. From the meals being supplied by food trucks to The Loop band getting everyone on the dance floor -- the entire day was mind blowing. There are tons of things about weddings that I absolutely love. One of the major things, though, is the incredible families that make the day possible. Hannah and Terry are surrounded by an absolutely amazing support system and it was easy to see how these two individuals became such a strong and loving couple. At certain points during the day, I had to step back and simply enjoy the precious moments shared between not only Hannah and Terry...

Katie & Matt

A Chic Wedding at Mt. Washington Mill

Katie and Matt completed my trio of weddings at the beginning of September, and it was one of the most beautiful weddings I've had the pleasure of photographing. Their wedding took place at the breath-taking Mt. Washington Mill-Dye House, which is a complete dream. My jaw dropped as soon as I stepped through the door's of the Dye House. Unique architecture, exposed brick, string lights creating a fairytale like glow over dinner and dancing; it's a space that doesn't need many additions to be perfect, but the small details that Katie and Matt did have played wonderfully with the overall atmosphere of the Dye House. In order to maximize time on their wedding day, I met with Katie and Matt at Fort McHenry a week before their wedding to take their bridal portraits. It was a new experience for me, and I think I may be in love with bridal portraits now. Katie and Matt were able to choose a location that had plenty of variety from bright green trees, to spectacular waterfront. They weren't limited to what their wedding venue had to offer and it allowed them a lot more time at the wedding to enjoy the amazing party. Shawn and I really enjoyed working with Katie, Matt, and their daughter, Larkin. Not only are they calm and down-to-Earth, but they are incredibly sweet. I look forward to any chance I get to work with these three again :).   ______________________________________________________________________________ The fabulous vendors that made this...

Kristy & Jonathan

An Awesome Wedding at Quiet Waters Park

At the beginning of September, Shawn and I shot Kristy and Jonathan's self described "backyard BBQ meets contemporary" wedding and family hangout. Their ceremony took place at the Severna Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church, with their reception happening at the Sassafras Pavilion in Quiet Waters Park. Since their engagement session had taken place in August, I didn't have to wait too long to be in the incredible presence of these two again. Kristy and Jonathan's entire day was accented with the greatest details from some of their favorite things (I love that they ship Luigi and Peach), but bigger than the details: their day was filled with a massive amount of love from their family and friends. I teared up more than a few times at the amount of support and happiness that these two have surrounding them. From Kristy, to other couples preparing to marry their best friend: "Pray more than you worry. Also, plan for the marriage more than you plan for the wedding day. It doesn't matter what the centerpieces look like or how many people didn't RSVP but still showed up.... you're still just as married as anyone else is once you say 'I do!'" I could - and probably will - carry that quote with me for all time :). Congratulations, Kristy and Jonathan! May your life be as wonderful and strong as the love that you have for one another. It was truly a pleasure being a part of your day...

Marielle & Don, Quiet Waters

A Beautiful Waterfront Wedding

A few weeks ago Shawn and I went down to our hometown of Pasadena, Maryland for Marielle and Don's wedding. Admittedly we only live 30 minutes away from the 'Dena - but hey - it's still fun to see all the familiar sites, haha! Marielle and Don were married at the beautiful Our Lady of the Chesapeake. Their fantastic reception took place at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. I always enjoy being able to do sessions here, because it has a little bit of everything for portraits. The Blue Heron Center was the perfect spot for this classic wedding, and it was filled with lovely details. The guests had an amazing time celebrating these two newlyweds, and the party seemed to be going constantly. At the end of the night, Marielle and Don's guests all formed a huge circle around these two and sent them off with great cheers and applause! :D Congratulations, Marielle and Don!   ______________________________________________________________________________ The getting ready was much less stressful for the guys :P   The fantastic vendors that made this day absolutely amazing! April & Corey

An Enchanted Wedding at Liriodendron Mansion

Shawn and I finished August with April and Corey's Alice in Wonderland inspired wedding at Liriodendron Mansion. It was a breathtaking day, and most of the decor for the day was made by April, which was even more amazing. On top of the Wonderland details there was a huge surprise for their guests during the ceremony when a live hawk flew in and delivered their wedding rings! I had been looking forward to their wedding day since I met these two last Fall for their engagement session, and I knew then that they are the perfect pair. Getting to read their engagement story just solidified that thought even more "Corey knows I have a love for animals. One day he took me to the Maryland zoo in Baltimore and surprised me by telling me that we were going on a behind the scenes tour of the penguin exhibit! We were able to go in the penguin exhibit and be surrounded by dozens of curious penguins. The zoo keeper giving us the tour asked if we wanted a picture, which we definitely did! So when we got together to take the photo Corey got down on one knee and proposed. Of course I said YES!!! Even the penguins were excited for us; both Corey and I got little nibbles on the leg from our penguin audience!" How adorable! April and Corey are two of the sweetest people with the biggest hearts. I loved getting to know them and...

Melissa & Joe

It's a Christmas in July Wedding

On Friday, Shawn and I photographed Melissa and Joe's "Christmas in July" wedding at The Mansion at Valley Country Club. It may have been a hot July day outside, but as soon as we stepped into the mansion it was a cool December evening. Melissa and Joe's guests were blown away at the attention to detail and many mentioned that all that was missing was snow. One of my absolute favorite details from their wedding was their guest book: their amazing florist (Raise Your Glass Event) set up a full Christmas tree in the foyer outside the ballroom with some red and white Christmas bulbs, markers, and hooks set up along side it. Guests were instructed to take a bulb, write their well wishes for the happy couple on it, and then hang it on the Christmas tree. By the end of the night, all that was needed were Christmas gifts for Melissa and Joe's daughter, Eleanora, to open :P. I am absolutely ecstatic to be sharing some of the wonderful images from their day. It is a wedding that Shawn and I will both remember for a lifetime. Thank you to Joe, Melissa, and Eleanora for allowing us to capture your beautiful day!   ______________________________________________________________________________ Melissa's mother made the cake and the delicious smell filled the entire mansion! So good! After their first dance, Joe and Melissa brought their daughter out to the dance floor :) A nice sweet cake cutting and then.... A second round of...

Brittany & Stephen

An Elegant Wedding at Ceresville Mansion

Brittany and Steve are such an amazing couple that Shawn and I are lucky enough to call friends. Getting to witness two people exchanging vows and sweet glances at each other is always something that makes my heart happy, but it's even more special when it's two people that I have gotten to see grow together over the years. After I had the honor of shooting their engagement session, I could not wait for their wedding day. It was a day I had a special countdown for in my phone, and whenever another week would tick by, my giddiness would just skyrocket! Everything about their big day was spot on. From the decorations to the weather there wasn't any more that these two could have asked for! Speaking of the weather and how perfect it was: the week leading up to Brittany and Steve's wedding was a complete wash with flood warnings all throughout Maryland. It rained every single day and there was even a call for rain on the wedding day, but, by the grace of God, the grey clouds cleared and the sun came out right in time for the ceremony. There was a lot to love about this day, but I think one of the best parts was their unity ceremony. I've seen a lot of unity candles and some sand ceremonies, but this was the first time I had seen the making of a PB&J sandwich. It was completely unique and THE cutest thing...

Meghan & Morgan, Mayo Beach Park

A Superhero Wedding

Meghan and Morgan's wedding was such a fun event! Just like their engagement session, Meghan and Morgan had a lot of fun superhero references that made an appearance throughout the day. They described their wedding style as a "fun, casual, superhero wedding" and they were not kidding! There was an awesome photobooth type station that had a wide array of superhero masks and props, and their guests would put on any props they wanted and then take a quick snap with the provided Polaroid camera. It was such a great idea! I would totally recommend this to anyone who doesn't want a tradition photobooth and instead just wants a quick snap of friends. Eventually the masks made their way to the dance floor where the groom - I mean Captain America - and Iron Man showed off their dance moves :P. This pair is definitely amazing and I cannot wait to see where life and their love takes them! Meghan and Morgan, thank you so much for allowing Shawn and me to capture your day! If your life together is anything like your wedding day, it will be beautiful, silly, and completely epic!   ______________________________________________________________________________   All of the awesome vendors that made this day amazing!  Ceremony & Reception Venue: Mayo Beach Park Caterer: Absolutely Perfect Catering Florist: Mahers Florist Hair & Makeup: Ashley Comegna at Ambition Salon DJ: Stan Greenleaf Bridal Gown: David's Bridal Groom's Tux: Men's Wearhouse ...

Heather & Tommy

A Fantastic Wedding at the Anchor Inn

Heather and Tommy's wedding day was absolutely perfect! I had been anticipating their wedding ever since their engagement session last Fall. These two are so sweet together, and when they are wrapped in each other's arms it's as if the rest of the world just fades away. During their ceremony there was a moment when Heather started to tear up and Tommy ever so gently reached over to her and just grabbed her hand. It's in those small actions that you see real genuine love and caring. It was really a beautiful and special moment. I am ecstatic to share Heather and Tommy's photos. Everything was just so wonderfully placed and the reception venue: wow! The Anchor Inn in Pasadena was completely breathtaking; the inside was so light and airy and Heather and Tommy's beach inspired decorations fit amazingly with the space! The decor was also fitting considering Tommy proposed to Heather in Ocean City while walking down the beach (AH! So adorable!). I'm so happy that I was able to be apart of this gorgeous day and I'm really looking forward to showing these two all of their beautiful images! :D Heather and Tommy, thank you so much allowing Shawn and me to capture this very special day! We know your life together will be just as amazing! :)   ______________________________________________________________________________ Even though everyone knows already, thank you Shawn for being my photo sidekick (even though you're THE superhero in my eyes) All of the awesome vendors...

Jennifer & Brock

A Beautiful DIY Wedding at Overhills Mansion

"I knew on our first date. Well, I guess it would be more accurate to say that I suspected, and that with time my suspicions were confirmed. Right when I met him I just got this overwhelming feeling of being totally at ease with him. He was warm and funny and smart and handsome and something just clicked. On my drive home after our first date, I called two of my best friends to tell them I had just met The One!" ____________ I had to start off with that quote from Jen about when she knew Brock was her person. It is a wonderful story of the beginnings of love, and it's made me think about the feelings that come with finding THE one. There isn't anything special that has to happen that let's you know someone is your forever. No angels, or doves, or magic carpet rides; it's just two people being together and being at ease. It's like inhaling fresh air after being cooped up inside all day. There's a sudden relief and everything seems to just fit. Love is a beautiful thing :). I don't think I could have asked for a better way to help kick off this wedding season than to photograph Jennifer and Brock's wedding! This wedding can be summed up as elegant, fun, and DIY. Jen is a DIY queen. Everything from the invitations to the "Brock <3 Jen" cookie favors were created/baked by Jen! All of...

Lisa & Michael

A Breathtaking Wedding at London Town & Gardens

I cannot say enough amazing things about Lisa and Michael. When I met with them last year, I could immediately tell they were something special; when I shot their engagement session this past January, I just knew they were the perfect pair. I had been counting down the days until their wedding. When it arrived, I had so much energy and excitement, I had to dance in the car before getting to them (otherwise I probably would have seemed super strange)! The weather on their day started off a little cloudy and a touch rainy, but by the time the ceremony rolled around, the clouds in the sky were highlighted by the sun behind them and gave the perfect backdrop for their vows. Of course, with their wedding at London Town, it was pretty much guaranteed that the ceremony would be breathtaking, but the added bit of sky just made it that much better. Lisa and Michael have a love like no other. During their bride and groom portrait session Michael was constantly keeping Lisa laughing and Lisa was constantly giving Michael sweet little kisses. They are filled with so much love for one another, watching them together and seeing how they look at each other makes my heart incredibly happy. I loved hearing how they both knew the other was the one, and Michael's take on it really drove home how great they are together: "I believe it takes a tremendous number of moments to add up...

Kelli & Ashwin

A Winter Wedding at Overhills Mansion

This was one of the sweetest weddings! I'm not kidding, I have a habit of tearing up during weddings, but I think I hit a new record for the amount of times I almost started full out crying. From Kelli's first look with her dad (which is something that always chokes me up), to the special surprise Ashwin had for Kelli during the reception. This wedding was perfect. I have to share this snippet from Kelli's take on the proposal, because I think Ashwin upgraded his awesome secret keeping skills on the wedding day: "Ashwin can't keep a secret to save his life. So to make sure I didn't know until the right moment, he came up with 20 (literally, not figuratively) different plans, so whenever he leaked a detail to me, he could switch plans and still be ok. I was thoroughly confused by this. Eventually, he just scrapped the whole plan and asked me on a walk to our favorite spot, to everyone's surprise." After Ashwin's dance with his mother, he went up to Kelli, took her hand, and led her to two newly placed chairs in the middle of the dance floor. Kelli's face was priceless, but as soon as the microphone and guitar came out she knew she was about to be serenaded. Ashwin prefaced that he had learned how to play one of Kelli's favorite songs, "Drops of Jupiter" by Train. He mentioned he couldn't remember all of the words perfectly and...

Jillian & Jack

A Classic Wedding at the Royal Sonesta

At the end of August I had the great pleasure of photographing Jillian and Jack's wedding. It was such an amazing day with this beautiful couple, and I am so happy that I got to capture these special moments for them. These two truly compliment each other so well, and one of the sweetest moments was when Jack saw Jillian coming down the aisle. Seeing his eyes well up with tears and excitement took this wedding to a totally different level. There was not a dry eye in the church when these two were announced as husband and wife. Even nature decided to shed some happy tears! There were a ton of precious moments during this wedding, especially during Jillian's dad's speech to the newlyweds, which I couldn't help but tear up. The amount of love that was incorporated into this day was one of the most beautiful things I have seen and I am so excited to be sharing some of these special memories! Jillian and Jack, I'm so happy that I was able to be apart of your special day. Your love is an amazing thing and I know you guys are going to have a wonderful life together! :D   ______________________________________________________________________________ Watching Jack and the rest of the guys cross the street with my second shooter (and husband) Shawn! Mary & Justin

A Beautiful Wedding at Saint Jane Francis

Maryland is where it is at for Mary and Justin, who you might recognize from their engagement session in the fall. I had been looking forward to their wedding because of Mary's description of the MD theme. Everything from their cake colors to the design on Mary's nails reflected their love for Maryland. I loved seeing the tiny details and big picture come together for their wedding day. I never realized how much of a designer's dream the Maryland flag is - it can be transformed into so many different things that no one would ever think of! When I first arrived at Mary's house, I was surprised to see how calm she was! Nothing stressed her out, and even their cake topper disappearing only made Mary shrug and go "Oh well." I think her very zen-like appearance was due to her knowing she was marrying the man of her dreams and that a missing cake topper wasn't going to change that. In fifty years she isn't even going to remember the things that were missing, so she felt no need to stress. I was definitely envious of her calm nature! Another thing I was envious of? Mary and Justin's reception: it was totally awesome! After a beautiful ceremony and some hilarious portraits of the bridal party, it was off to a reception that is now on my "Top Five Favorite Receptions" list. Mary and Justin made their grand entrance by breaking through a banner with their...

Laura & Michael

A Wonderful Wedding at Oak Crest Village

Over the summer, I met up with Laura and Mike to shoot their engagement photos at Clipper Mill in Baltimore. I knew from my first meeting with these two that I was going to love them, and I was not wrong. Laura is so caring and kind, always asking how you are doing - even when it's her day! I really got to know Laura through our near-constant communication via email. She was so pleasant to work with and always so calm. As I plan my own wedding, being that relaxed is something I DREAM of having :P. I always try to look at my clients as friends since it makes it so easy to slip into shooting, and also it gives me an excuse for being so happy for them, hahah! Laura makes it easy to look at her as a friend. I'll even admit, a few times during Mike and Laura's wedding, I found myself tearing up because I was just so excited for them (as did watching their wedding video from Eric Stishan). They really are a perfect match; Laura is considerate and selfless, Mike is easy-going and generous. The number of friends and family there for the big day was a huge indicator that they are very deserving of everlasting love and joy. During the toasts, the best man gave an heartfelt speech about the two of them that I think left everyone with red, teary eyes. Luckily, I was hidden behind my camera so no...

Sue & Joel

A Charming Wedding at Historic London Town & Gardens

On October 27th, I traveled to Historic London Town & Gardens in Edgewater, Maryland for Sue and Joel's beautiful wedding. I had been looking forward to their fall wedding ever since their summer engagement session in July. When you think of the ideal weather for a wedding, this day was it. It wasn't unbearably hot, it wasn't freezing, it was just flawless! Sue had her daughters and son involved with the wedding and I feel like they helped a great deal with keeping everything Sue envisioned for the day in smooth working order. The best part about the wedding was that Sue and Joel were going to be sailing off into the sunset at the conclusion of the evening and had Joel's sailboat waiting at the venue's pier. Unfortunately, they had a funny memory from their sailing moment, since the boat had become stuck in the sand due to the tide going out. They enlisted all of their friends and family to help, and even Sue got up on the side of the boat to try to rock the boat out of the sand. Though it wasn't what they had in mind, Sue and Joel were in good spirits about it all and ended up getting some good time together on the boat, with a bottle of champagne, as they waited for the tow boat to come. Sue and Joel, thank you so much for letting me share your special day. You both are fantastic! _________________________________________ _________________________________________ A few...

Jessica & Thomas

A Beautiful Wedding at Linganore Winecellars

A few weeks ago I traveled up to Mount Airy for Jessica and Thomas's wedding! I was super excited and had been looking forward to it since the day I met with them way back in May (before I even knew if I passed their interview process :P). The day started at a salon on the main street of the town, where the girls were getting even more beautified than they were naturally. Jessica was mostly calm, except for occasionally showing her excitement with a huge smile and a laugh with her girls. I don't know how she got through the day without being stressed out at all! It certainly helped that the day ran incredibly smoothly, since both Jessica and Thomas had everything timed and organized perfectly. Before the ceremony, Jessica and Thomas did a first look that was accompanied by the wedding party and most of their family. It was and incredible build-up, with people were cheering and laughing and shouting when Jess was near, Thomas was turning around, when the big reveal finally happened. Just typing it makes me giddy all over again! During the ceremony, the sun created a gorgeous pink and orange sky, and there was plenty of laughter, as well as emotional readings from both the bride and groom's mothers. It was only the ceremony, and the day already felt like it couldn't get any better. But there was still the night-time photo session! After some wonderful buffet selections (quesadillas, meatballs, and 7...

Leah & Glenn

A Rustic Wedding at the Howard County Conservancy

On May 11, I had the pleasure of photographing Leah and Glenn's wedding. You may remember when I posted their engagement session. It was the most amazing, intimate, and cute wedding that I've been to and I am going to proclaim is as one of my favorite weddings! It took place at the Howard County Conservancy in Woodstock, Maryland. The surrounding area is picture perfect suburbia, then the area opens up to this gorgeous field to reveal the Conservancy. When my second shooter and I arrived, the weather was great - lots of sun, clouds, and a comfortable warm.  Then, the weather shifted and it started to downpour, which worried me how it would impact the ceremony (it was taking place in the barn at the conservancy). But it seemed like the heavens knew just when to start and stop raining. It stopped soon after Leah announced she was all ready to go to the barn, started once she was safely inside, and stopped a little after the ceremony was done. The storm didn't diminish any of the happiness, though, and Leah was all smiles as she walked down the aisle to Glenn. I love the way Leah and Glenn look at each other. it's amazing when you see two people's eyes light up just at the sight of one another. They are such a wonderful pair, and I'm so glad that I was able to capture all the love between them, their family, and their friends. Not to...
